Boot camp turns into a negative for Mac, and there seems to be an Apple backlash now

I check the Windows section of reddit regularly, at Windows. For a few months there have been regular posts (average probably once a week) from people who are switching back to Windows after using Mac for years. Usually they want to know what software to use for the things they do.

This is the quote from the boot camp comment.

I've installed and set up boot camp on my Macbook and more and more I'm booting into Windows 7 and spending less and less time in OS X.
The url is Help switching back to Windows : windows

Most of my forum time is spent on a different, larger forum, but there have been 2 people there who also had both Leopard, and 7, and preferred 7. Here is a quote from one of them.

I paid the price- I bought a mac mini, and paid as much for a 2 GHz dual core machine with 300GB hard drive as I paid for my Windows 7 computer with 3.8GHz quad core processor and 750GB hard drive. But the experience was not improved, it was worse. Windows 7 proved to be superior to white leopard in most ways. I did find a few things I liked better about the spotted cat OS, but mostly it felt crude and cheap compared to Win7.
I got a Mac one time because of the MacMouth stuff, and it was a mistake. It had more problems than my 3 pcs put together, and did about a tenth as much work before I put it in storage, then sold it. A lot of it still goes on so I thought it's worth a post once in awhile to point the other way.

I'm actually still grouchy about the Mac experience. I do have a ton of links to back this up more, but just picked a couple that sum something up.

Yep, eventhough my brother, (Apple fan) keeps telling me to get an Apple computer, l won't budge!

Spending $1,500 AU, for the same computer as my Toshiba, Satellite Laptop, ($600) seems nuts to me!

Yeah, l know it looks nicer and can lick it in regards to video editing, and it has less viruses, but for someone like me who doesn't have a lot of money to throw around, it is an easy decision.

I may still tentatively try Apple one day, but for the foreseeable future l will stay with Windows!

This story is only loosely related to the original post, but it may be interesting to you, Lloyd. When I bought my first computer I didn't know whether to get a PC or a Mac. Didn't know much about either one, I was that computer illiterate. So I looking at PC's a couple stores, then I went to a Mac store. The salesman at the Mac store asked a couple questions and I mentioned that I didn't know if I wanted a Mac or a PC. He looked surprised, then said something rude and walked away. I was kind of stunned, but I said right then I wasn't going to buy a Mac, and to this day, about 16 years later, I've owned nothing but PC's.

I wonder how many sales that kind of attitude has cost not only that store, but Apple as well?

When I bought my newest computer I actually did look at a Mac. I clicked on Safari and went a music site so I'd have some music in the background while I checked out the computer. As soon as I hit play it froze up. So much for all I'd heard about Mac's never having the lock up problems Windows had. I went out and bought another PC.

To be fair though, my nephew just bought a new Mac and loves it. I don't know how much of that is because he really does love it, and how much is because you want to love it after paying a premiuum price so you don't feel like you spent foolishly.

Just when you think you've got it all figured out, someone changes the rules.

Yeah, l get that sort of thing from my brother all the time! He is so much in love with Apple that he can't figure out why l stay with PC,s

He did try to give me an iphone for Christmas, but l refused because since you need an Apple PC, etc to run it, it would just end up being an expansive door-stop.

Putting Apples OS on my Laptop is possible, but it has so many tech, issues that it isn't worth it!

A well known British actor, said it well, when interviewed; he said everyone should buy Apple, because since it looks so good, you will want to use it!!!

I think that it is more accurate to say since you have spent twice as much buying this shiny object you need to justify being a grand of two out of pocket, by using it as much as possible!

But don't get me wrong l may still try an Apple one day, but only when l am rolling in it!

When I bought my latest desktop a few months back, I priced out the one I wanted and checked the pricing of a comparable Apple desktop...

    PC: $1300
    Mac: $3200

Sorry, but even if an Apple is better, I hardly think it's TWICE as good. Frankly, even at the over twice the price, the hard drive was still smaller and the processor was slightly inferior.

And viruses - that to me is a tired argument. One good antivirus program and some common sense and a PC owner would have pretty close to zero issues with viruses and trojans. The last time I had to clean ANY of our computers (2 desktops and 6 laptops) was several YEARS ago. The users in my house range from 9 to 72 years old.

I know quite a few Mac users and I hear them cussing at their units from time to time as well

So, twice the price? Not for me - ever.
