Trick or Treat? How old is too old?

I think it's too old to trick or treat unless you are going to friends houses - but you are never too old for the Night itself. I dress up and go to parties - I still go to haunted houses and corn mazes. And I always have a drink to toast to my wonderful departed Mother, who checked out of this hotel on Halloween almost 30 years ago. Mom always had a sense of humor so wherever she is, she's pleased that the Reaper chose to escort her out during that holiday.

No, it's not me!

It's a relative....on my wife's side

Yes, it is lame and weird. What's the story with your wife's relative? Lonely? Looney? A child trapped in an adult's body? Addicted to sugar but to poor to afford candy? Eccentric? High-functioning autistic? Intellectually "special"? Someone should stop trick or treating by age 30 as I did.

I've adjusted how I carry out business transactions since childhood, but it is a similar principle, I guess. The "trick" nowadays is in the form of not providing something someone needs if I don't get the money I ask for it.

We always see high school kids around here along with the little ones, so they are most definitely older than 12.

I hope your relative is short, goes out with a bunch of his/her own relatives' kids and keeps totally covered, because if I ever see someone that old actually trick or treating and not just accompanying their kids to keep them safe, it's probably time to inform the police.

If this person is only going (with kids) to people he or she knows and they all get a kick out of it, that's one thing. Otherwise, it would concern me what this person is doing.

WHO KNOWS? Some people really go in for this. Some even think they are vampires or werewolves! Go figure. I think it is weird. Then again, outside of the candy and custom, I saw little in it.

I wouldn't have a problem with someone 32 knocking on my door and begging for candy. If he was wearing a Halloween costume I'd put a piece of candy in his bag, pat him on the head, and say, "Here you go, boy." :rolleyes:

I'm not certain I can come up with an age limit, so I think if you're taller than I am, you really shouldn't be going out door to door begging for candy with the little ones.

As a matter of fact, if you come to my door you're going to get a "trick" you may not have bargained for.

However, you're never too old to celebrate Halloween whether by dressing up to hand out candy to the kiddies, or hosting or attending parties. Those are always fun no matter how tall or old you are!

Um Terra? There are 10 year olds taller than you are.

Where I grew up people trick-or-treated until they were out of high school. We always expected high schoolers at the door and they always had some very innovative and interesting costumes. By high school though parties were taking over the halloween fun. Parents have a viable excuse because they escort children - but don't ever think they aren't enjoying the rounds themselves.

No, it's not me!

If I opened the door to a 32 year old man trick or treating without a child with him, I'd be bracing myself on the assumption that he's there for trouble.

There might be many people who want to run through the streets naked but some things just don't go down to well with the general public for the sole fact that's it's just not "normal".

When there's other people in the picture that could potentially be scared or offended by another persons actions it's more about a single person just doing what they want to do.

There's consideration for others to factor in first and foremost.

I know a 74 year old midget who still goes out trick or treating. Some of the people passing out candy get suspicious though when they smell blackberry brandy on his breath.

I'm 22, and I went last year for a trick or treat, true Story. If i was a parent though, I'd be surprised if i see a middle aged dude in front of my door asking for candies.

Where the heck to those chicks live? It's always freezing out during Halloween where I am (other than the Halloween I was in CA at my sister's). I've always had costumes that are so thick that you could hit a ski slope with them on and stay warm. I still have one that is neck to floor 2 inch thick cotton, incidentally. Just because you're not going door to door for candy doesn't mean that Halloween in town isn't still a gas.

We went to the Haight-Ashbury district a couple of times when I lived near SFO...it's hard to tell who is in costume on Halloween and who isn't...:rolleyes:

But the "Exotic-Erotic Ball" is a gas!

Trick or Treating at 32 years of age is OK, as long as you have a kid or two with you. Wouldn't it be a bit weird to open the door to a grown adult who doesn't have children with them? I would think I was about to get robbed or something.

I'm tired of giving out candy. Why can't we give out a trick instead? If it's trick or treat, then tricks should be expected 50% of the time. I think tricks are way under represented. We've just let kids demand treats. Where's the fun in that? M&Ms are sooo not scary. Plus, it's too predictable, no surprise. Kids need to learn that it's not always their way all the time. Healthier right? Diversify their experience. So yeah...gonna pass out campaign buttons instead
