Go and spam some sports site or something, you tw.t.

I don' think I'm the only one who reported those. Did you send them a shout, too? They are really good at getting rid of this kind of crap. Doesn't do much good to call a bot names. They are pretty thick skinned about that stuff.

I have been bombarded in my forum for weeks - 10 at a time.

So I am having not #$%%^^& FUN JUST DELETING THEM 10 AT A TIME.

I have never had to babysit the PIPS forum because it is pretty quiet usually - but now I have to PATrol every time I remember to get rid of those $#%$%%#@$# sports schedules.

I am having no fun when I can't even say 'get lost creep' .

    It's not fair.

      I reported them as well.

Dang bots. I'd like to propel my foot up their bottoms!

Spam in my forum is so rare that it's a shock to see any ever. Of course - my site isn't in a niche that attracts general public or IM product advertisements. Thanks for small favors.

I've almost never had any, in mine.

But I have "admin-activated" memberships, rather than "member-activated". Nobody's account becomes live until they've replied to an automated welcome email (giving a link to the rules), and confirmed that "the rules suit them".

That takes away any bots and almost all the intending spammers, too, before they can annoy anyone.

    eXcellent, aleXa!

We had a forum away from here once for some program and we also had that admin-activated membership only. What a boone to mankind - however I still had rivers of spam in the activation queue - Total bummer

So we can't blame the bots for everything - etc -- I was going to say earlier, it's like:

'do guns kill people or do people kill people' (using guns) - something like that -

who sets the bots in motion? piglets?

    nooooooo! it's people!

(people with proxy servers so they are fricking unstoppable)

For a second there, I thought you were telling the mods to go post somewhere else.

This garbage will probably continue through football season at least, so just report and ignore. The mindless drones who post it aren't going to care that they're hitting the same forum with the same games 20 times each. Someone is paying them to spam, and they're going to take the money. They don't really care what damage they do in the process. Typical spammer mentality.

It was interesting when, after the first weekend of the onslaught, someone signed up from one of the companies selling this "service," and tried to recruit affiliates.

I think I reported that one, too. I wouldn't have ever linked spam to football before. Gives a whole new meaning to the word "punt".

Alexa - that's how I have my forum set up. Wonder if that is why I get no spam. Once in awhile I delete a member who just puts up a spammy profile then doesn't post though. They may have seen the fate of people who actually spam us. Wouldn't be feasible in a forum this size though.

          Yes, same here.

There's a little box in the profile where they can fill in "their site" and I do look at them before activating profiles (or my moderators do - I don't even check in every day, to be honest ).

I allow sig-files, but no links to anything commercial or anything in which the member has a financial interest.

Mine is/was setup you had to register for a free membership to get forum access.... I was thinking of removing that but maybe I need to reconsider.
