I've had mixed feelings about government-sponsored news shows. Some of the news they've produced has been worthy. However, when something is part of government, crimes within its body can be covered up and get official protection, and that is scary.

    Oooh, well, it's not quite clear yet exactly what he knew himself, rather than "his office" (which may include an enormous number of people?), what he could/should have done about it, and the extent to which he was personally culpable ... I think?

    At the very least, the story has a loooo-o-o-o-o-oooong way to go, anyway, even just in terms of fact-finding, let alone blame-attribution.

    Call me pedantic, but the BBC isn't exactly "government sponsored", by the way. Successive governments of all flavors have certainly felt it's been very far from that.

    Apologies if I seem argumentative ... I don't imagine our reactions to the substance of this story are out of alignment at all, I hasten to say!
