I guess most of the internet marketer are using whm & cpanel for hosting, i am now building an automation to automate the account creation process and install wordpress via cpanel API.

So i need to survey what is the hosting control panel you guys are using? is it a majority of you using whm cpanel?

  • I use Virtualmin GPL. Creating script installers for Virtualmin seems pretty easy and well documented. But I'm sure most people here are using whm/cPanel. You've probably been around here long enough to notice that most people around here use Hostgator or other cPanel hosts.

    C Panel from Host Gator
    The best one ever.

  • I have been using whm + cpanel for many years, and i think it is the best for online marketer.

    everyone else?
  • C Panel from Host Gator here as well. I've been very happy with this service.
  • I use Hsphere.
  • Anyone else using whm + cpanel?

    • I am using cPanel of Hostgator. I am satisfied with it.
  • We use whm and cpanel for everyone's hosting accounts as well as our main website. It's just an overall fantastic control panel. And it certainly is worth paying for.

  • I just used a cPanel installed in my hosting account.
  • Same here. cPanel & WHM. Resellers have a limited version of WHM.
  • ISP Mandager
  • I am using cpanel with arvixe and a propriety control panel of dreamhost, both are good.
  • I imagine that cPanel is by far the majority here. It's a great panel plus there is plenty of documentation on it.
  • look like most of us are using cpanel. then my project to automate cpanel will have great market value.

Thank you for taking time for the survey!
  • Using Plesk on Hostgator because it was free when I signed up for it and Cpanel was about $5 a month.

TBH I think interface-wise is a bit better than CPanel, but it's something new to learn if you are used to CPanel.... There's a big security issue with new Plesk installs and that is it creates generic templates for new domains you add, those templates contain sensitive data about php/MySQL/Apache versions and features. So you need to disable those templates, or just delete the pre-made index.html and sub-folders when you add a new domain.
On the plus side the DNS is awesome and you don't need to touch it. Just add a domain to your server: yourdomain.com and DNS auto-populates and site is ready to go.

WordPress installs feel a little faster also. I'm happy with it and it's still in its infancy so it will get better. They also seem to ask for improvement ideas from their customers which is a huge plus as it puts the design work into the hands of the community.
  • I've used both cpanel and plesk and I think it depends what you need out of the panel.
  • I use cPanel and have used H-Sphere / Parallels in the past, but prefer cPanel definitely.

    • H-Sphere. I used cPanel in the past and didn't like it.

  • cPanel is the best and always will be

    • I'm really diggin' 11.34
    • Does cPanel still have that stupid add-on domains BS, instead of having multiple domains (in one account) which are independent of each other (which is the preferred way)?

  • cPanel development use the following structure:

    WHM
    ------

if you get a dedicated server, you will get WHM with root access, this control panel will have many features such as configure the server setting, reboot the server & schedule backup.

if you get a reseller hosting account, you will get the same WHM panel, but with lesser functionality.

    * WHM with root access can hold reseller accounts and the cpanel accounts under it.
    * WHM reseller panel will hold multiple cpanel accounts.

    cPanel
    ------

cPanel is normally use to host one single domain, therefore you will have multiple cPanel under WHM.

but you still have the ability to host another domain name under a single cPanel account by the "addon domain" function.
  • It may be a biased opinion, but cPanel all the way
The experiences I've had with Vdeck have been morbid.
However, from what I've heard about Zpanel it's a great free alternative to cPanel. However I wouldn't have the personal experience to say, cPanel has gotten me everything I've needed from a control panel.
  • Got WHM and also a CPanel with add on domains with another host.

Much prefer using WHM to be honest.

I find adding on domains a pain compared to just adding a new account with WHM but it's no big deal really.
