Actually this strikes me as a great way of comparing them. They are different and one will be better for some people and the other for others, depending on what they do.

One thing I really liked about Mac was TextEdit, a simple word processing program that did everything I needed. Did not need Word at all.

When I got Vista with the media center included in all versions, I expected that I would be able to transfer my vhs tapes to dvds but no, it seemed there were deliberate obstacles to doing that. A friend said she could do it with her Mac right out of the box. I do have everything I need to do it now except the time.

A couple of limitations of Macs are that they don't run Dragon Naturally Speaking yet. (I've read they might soon.) And there are no CAD (computer assisted design) programs for Macs. I wouldn't have expected that to be much of a concern in this forum but someone thinking of getting a Mac specifically asked about that in the old WF. It's pretty often claimed that creative people use Macs. Well not if they are creative for a living, like architects and engineers who need CAD programs.

A couple of positives about pcs, the vista voice recognition software is supposed to be better than DNS, at least according to one thread in this forum. I probably will be using it soon. A couple of really small things I like about Vista are the search, extremely good, and the snip tool, an extremely good simple screen capture software.

I use a pc, but macs are fine machine. my only issue with them is that software always goes to pc first, IF enough people like it goes to mac. People tal about the price, but if you sit down and actually check price vs price, for what is on the machine, it will cost you just about the same.

One of my gripes with mac is getting them repaired. everything breaks.. You cant take your mac apart yoursef, you can't just take it down to the corner computer repair shop. It has to be repaired by a mac certified repair tech. Look in your phone bood and see how many there are in your area, probably not alot.

MAC or PC? Hmmmm.

I have both. My sister only has PC since she is a Software Technologist. According to my sister, the functionality or advantages and disadvantages of both machines really depend on how you are going to use both as a working tool. For instance, my sister cannot use a MAC because in her profession software compatibility and a whole range of languages, not available in MAC, are necessary. If you are, however, a creative person who does graphic designs and all sorts of musical stuff then it would be best to switch to MAC.

IMHO though, as a journalist who does SEO sidelines, i always find my macbook to be very convenient. I like that i'm not having any problems with viruses, and BSODs. I like that it only takes 1-2mins to turn it on start using whichever applications i like without worrying about hanging and overheating problems. The only thing i probably do not like about it is that my version of macbook is prone to cracks. Mine actually has a hairline crack near the vent. It's not all noticeable but still, it bothers me. Might just take it this week to the nearest apple center to get the shell replaced before the warranty expires.

I used macs for graphic design courses in the 90's. They crashed at LEAST once per session. PC's were stable. That is one difference.
