Would You Be A Good Politician?

I was just reading an analysis of body language, voice intonation and suchlike in politicians. I'd make a terrible politician. I tend to avoid eye contact, will easily but unknowingly exhibit confrontational stances, smirk at the wrong places, point too much. Forget policy, if your body language isn't right, it ain't happening, whatever you want. I'm not voting for me.

Yeah - I'd be an excellent politician. Should have continued that path at college. I was a kick-butt Chief Justice of the student gov there. They (stud gov) hated me though. I rescinded the pay amendment that they slipped in the school constitution illegally. They did nothing all semester but throw themselves a very spendy party - so I slammed em.

Yeah - I'm good. I was elected without running for office.

I NEVER had aspirations to be a politician. If I were, and had any power, I know that maybe close to 50% wouldn't like it. I wouldn't vote any party line.

But no, I couldn't take all the lies they would say about me, etc... And I can NOT see paying MILLIONS for a lottery for a job that at best "legally" makes about $400,000 in the first year.

It's not the job that pays, Steve - it's the kick backs and the insider trading they are allowed to do.

I KNOW, but I DID say LEGALLY! GRANTED, they have laws nullifying those laws but THEY are, in fact, ILLEGAL! As it says in the preamble, "ALL MEN ARE CREATED EQUAL". There is an amendment later clarifying that!

Did YOU know that, in most cases, those that would know about the circumstances are FORBIDDEN to trade for a time? TRUE! And some are FORBIDDEN to take certain jobs, etc... if they DO trade! HECK, they jailed MARTHA STEWART!

As for the books? Some use information that should be secret, and some basically say things that would get others sued, killed, or thrown in jail! One senator, I won't say who because, you know..... Was treated like everyone else on a plane! OH THE HORROR!!!!!! And he caused a disturbance! He said, to the flight attendant, among other things "Do you ****KNOW**** who I am?". SERIOUSLY, he expected SPECIAL treatment! Sadly, they often get it. I cut back on my expenses for OTHER customers, but for him I would spend lavishly on the hotel, etc.... if I even ever worked for him.

How about that senator that endangered Americans and then sold passport covers! PASSPORT COVERS? WHY? Well, he sold them to help hide the fact that you are American! Like when the train conductor encountered a group of about 5 people! Th other four LAUGHED! WHY? Because I was the ONLY one that had his passport checked by the train conductor! WHY? Because the others had a cover identifying them as EU passports, and MINE was AMERICAN! IMAGINE if that train were a plane, and the conductor was a terrorist!

YEAH, I KNOW! They get special expense accounts, special pensions, special insurance, special protection, assistants, possibly escorts, etc.... They get recorded everywhere, a free televised area to speak, etc.... And THAT is just the "legal" stuff! ICSM! I worked less than a block away from the whitehouse area at one point. I had to plug my ears when dignitaries left, etc... Talk about ESCORTS!

Would I make a good politician? Of course...

    ...not!

I detest politics. I'm thinking it would be hard to be good at something you loathe.

Just when you think you've got it all figured out, someone changes the rules.

Well, I hate debates, yelling, etc... But I would LOVE tearing apart bad bills, and publicizing them. Eventually, I bet over 50% would LOVE me, across party lines. ASSUMING could get the TRUTH out!

Of course, I don't know HOW I could get through some of that convoluted stuff. I would probably end up trying to pass a bill that wording be standardized or something.

I wonder how many WEIRD laws we get because people misread or miscount when people see things like:

"Change the second semicolon in the 2nd sentence in A(3) in bill XXXX to "and" and replace the second clause in the 5 sentence of b(3) with "except on the second sunday in may."

SERIOUSLY folks, some recent bills had DOZENS OF PAGES with just such instructions....

No way. Not me. Too many people wanting and needing too many things, and not enough money. I'd tell people what they need to hear, and not what they want to hear. I'd never get elected.

People don't just want to be lied to, they demand it. And I'm not saying I'm any better than the rest of the population.

Yeah, that is why nobody will legitimately get 100% of the vote. SICK!

I'm good at public speaking and love to debate, but I wouldn't make it in politics. On either side of our 2-party system, it's mediocrity and feel-good words that win out. People don't want to hear the uncomfortable facts about our debt and the danger of devalued currency.

I always enjoy watching those interviews where they ask people's opinions about the opposing candidate's policies, only they're actually the policies of the candidate those people claim to support. The utter disregard for the actual issues, in favor of voting party-line or for whoever "looks like a nice guy" is both amusing and depressing.
