Here is an idea of what housing cost near Chiang Mai, Thailand. I think this video was shot in December, 2011.

Also note that this house is being rented for $500 per month on a one year lease.

I may revise my monthly target IM income downward. Cool.

Wow, that's pretty cool, it would cost us, about about $2,400 a month to rent and about $250, 000 to $350,000 to buy something like this on the outskirts of Melbourne.

Most people can't even afford to save up the deposit, in AU, at the moment.

Obviously if you buy a house in a small country town in the middle of no-where, or Tasmania it is about $100,000, but l doubt you would get a place as nice as that, apart from the almost non-existent kitchen and crappy curtains!

    Thanks for sharing. :p

Across Tasmania house prices dropped by 3.2% on the same time last year to a median of $300,000, the report says.
Tasmanian house prices still falling: REIT

Interesting. If you read the comments at YT the guy will only give so much info and then he says join the membership site. For example, a foreigner may not be able to own the land, just the house. People ask questions about this and he tells them "It's too boring to discuss here on youtube, go to the membership site". It costs $10 a month to join. Smart.

Lol, it's too boring to discuss on Youtube.

That's kinda sad for a sales pitch.

I didn't make it all the way through, either. It occurred to me that if I buy a cheap house in Thailand...every morning when I wake up I'll be in Thailand.:p

I've known two people who moved to Thailand permanently and love it there but wouldn't be my preferred destination.

Perfectly respectable response. I know many people for which moving out of the country is not a fit for them for one reason or another.

I am not an evangelist. I am just researching a plan for me.

I think JC is just starting to catch on to Internet Marketing a bit. He is an affiliate for a Thai language course, which I understand is pretty good. He has a product or two of his own. And now the membership site.

I bet he's a member at the WF then. Is he? It's a nice niche and a good start by him. I know it takes a lot views to get sales from YT videos. I wonder how well it's going so far. As Yukon said it's a bit of a weak sales pitch, but maybe just weak enough to not look like a sales pitch.

Yuck. Same house as every other house on the street - which is a crowded street. In Thailand. I don't see anything overly interesting about this at all. There are a LOT of places cheaper than the states where a person can have a little more than a postage stamp of land and don't have to live in what looks like an assembly line production, where there is lots of room to roam and some awesomely incredible gem and fossil hunting experiences to be had. I'm all for the fact that living outside the country has its benefits -- but I didn't really see one in that film. Pass.

I think Tim hit the nail right on the head about this. The keyword here is "Thai wife". She is the one who is allow to buy freehold land and is much less susceptible to be fleeced by local contractors.

I have been to Thailand every year for the past several years. It is mainly around the Phuket, Krabi and Samui region although i have also been to Bangkok. I have renting short stay apartments and a car is the past few years. The prices there are just not as cheap as many think. Typical apartments or houses for foreigners rarely sell for less than 250K. Food, petrol and other consumables are not that cheap either. Things will probably be cheaper in Chiang Mai but that is still a major tourist destination. If you go outside tourist areas, you may find very few supporting facilities such as supermarkets and restaurants.

Another thing I noticed is the Thais are less welcoming year after year. This is an undercurrent of hard feeling against tourists. For one, many resent their country being regarded as the biggest brothel in the world. Another is disrespect of their customs by tourists. One would walking around shirtless or in a bikini around town centers. Topless and nude sunbathing are against the law but European tourists do it openly. Another is loutish behavior by some tourists, especially near their temples.

Joe, I know you are keen on living in Thailand. But I would advise you plan a few months's stay there first before making a final decision. That is if you have not already done so.

      Derek,

I appreciate your input. I have already made that decision, that is to visit Thailand for an extended time. Kathleen Peddicord had mentioned that recommendation and it makes perfect sense to me.

I may not end up in Thailand but "The Road to Thailand" is a catchy phrase that helps keep me focused.

Who knows, maybe I will meet you there.

that Thai house doesn't give a feeling of bright and spacious interiors ...but maybe they are fed up with the sun and want to keep it away...
