I decided it was time to get a new stereo for the car. I had a few extra things I wanted, mainly the ability to play music from a USB drive or SD card. So, off I went to the BestBuy where some of my GeekSquad friends work.

Found Doug, figured out the proper system, and gave him money. Pulled the car into the bay to have it installed.

As he was getting ready to pull the dashboard, he joked, "You gonna retire your 'worn out tape of Chris Ledoux'?" To which I replied, "Push the eject button."

The look on his face when the tape popped out was priceless.

I think I'm going to have that cassette framed.

There is no such thing as a "worn out tape of Chris Ledoux", no matter what Garth says.

I would have loved to have seen his face! I can see your next signature:

I beg to differ. I've played that tape at least 1000 times. ("Whatcha Gonna Do With a Cowboy")

But now, I can dump the whole Chris collection, including all three albums from "American Cowboy," into a folder on a USB drive and just hit Shuffle. Or whatever it's called on that system.

Nope. That'd be for other folks to do. Kim and Kurt and Steven and... Never mind. It's a long list of folks far more qualified than I.

If I tried, they'd have to gimme gimme shock treatment and I'd end up a teenaged lobotomy.

What I meant was, you can't play Chris Ledoux enough! Even if it's a worn out tape, I'd still play it.

And, yes, the members you mentioned and the threads they have created are some of the "best of". That was my reference to your "Handy Guide", a lot could be learned from the people on this forum, if people just took the time.

Anyhow, my post went south on me, it was meant as a compliment. Sorry for the misunderstanding..

So I never heard of this guy. I had to look him up on youtube and play a couple to see who he was.
Apparently, women can get enough of him rather quickly. I was able to get enough about 30 seconds into all three I started to listen to.

Thats cuz you just need to cowboy up, even if it means eatin a little dirt once in awhile, and feel the bull riding adrenaline.

I have to cowboy up? LMAO. Ever ride a bull bareback? Or a hog? Ever dig a damned petrified tree out of the ground (guaranteed to put grit in your teeth). I still prefer to do my cowboying up to the tune of rock instead of country.

  • I think some new IMers need to listen to Chris LeDoux songs:

    You gotta cowboy up
    When you get throwed down
Get right back in the saddle
As soon as you hit the ground
You've heard that the tough get goin'
    When the goin' gets tough
Around here what we say is
    Boy you better cowboy up

Shane - that's the same song as the bottom one I posted. LOL. Great minds think alike.

Funny. The last time I told a guy to cowboy up, he was crying like a little girl. When I turned around and told him to cowboy up it made him cry harder. He was sobbing his guts out. I dunno if I ever wanna tell a guy that one again. It was just way too pathetic to risk it again.

Yep, l was curious, and wanted to see the film-clip that goes with the audio. It seems to be getting harder and harder to find the original video that goes with these songs!

Another post l did around 80's songs was a nightmare to find some of the original video with audio.

And yes it is a great song, certainly worth a second post.

We have one car with a cassette player and another car with a CD player and a USB port, so we have all the bases covered except 8 track tapes. Fortunately, I threw all mine away back in the 90s.

Paul, great story. I would have loved to have seen the look on his face too.

I recently purchased an extra car (2006 lincoln ls) and for a week I thought this thing had no CD player and only played cassettes. Very dumb of me actually...Turns out the six cd changer was hiding in a compartment in the glove box the whole time.

Thinking it was aweful strange for a car to come equipped with all these gadgets and no cd player, I was perplexed by the fact that I could see the changer on the steering wheel, but could not figure out where to load the cd's... :p Figured it must be an add on you have to buy... like I said "very dumb" about the more trivial things in life. lol

I did dig up a bunch of cool cassettes in my dumbness though! So that was positive.

Anyhoo... this may help you play those old 45's in the truck Kurt.:

If so, I'd wager I'm a close second.

I was sitting at the kitchen table one evening, working on the outline for a project. Had the usual notebook and pack of index cards in front of me, and the Ramones cranked on the stereo. Some friends dropped by (the kind with keys to the house) and I didn't hear them come in. One knows my musical tastes. His girlfriend was a bartender at a place we used to hang out, and was used to me playing country on the jukebox.

I'm just scribbling notes on cards and I hear, out of nowhere, a quiet voice saying, "Oh. My. G-d."
