Eureka!

My wife had an epiphany today. She said, "I think Coach bags are a little bit of a rip-off." More than a little bit, but that is an amazing advancement.

Why someone would walk around displaying a logo like a walking billboard without being paid for it is beyond me. (at least she doesn't choose logo bags and suchlike)

  • Same goes with a lot of shirt companies

They're not paying $400+ but they still buy something with a label splattered on the front
  • In MY defense, I DO have a lot of "bodybuilding.com" tshirts. They are nice beefy tshirts, and I got them as PREMIUMS! But yeah, when a friend told me about coach purses, I HAD to check them out! TINY, and ******EXPENSIVE******! URE, they make bigger ones, but I'm sure the price goes up.

WOW, I guess they lowered the prices, but STILL....

Luxury Handbags, Luxury Bags, Luxury Purses and Clutches from Coach

I seriously DON'T understand the attraction.

    • The attraction is about having something more exclusive that "ordinary" people don't have. Just like expensive cars to run around in style. There is an upside to those able to afford more expensive things, they likely did get something of better quality. The downside is that they've paid through the nose to get them.

Whatever. Surely most people like good things, too, but having or not having money to buy these things isn't a definition of the personal worth and moral integrity of anyone.
  • Well April, I usually don't buy the most expensive of anything, even if it is well within my budget. I never saw the point in that. And income doesn't make a person any better, I have known people that made $20K/year with practically no savings that I thought were better people than millionaires I have known.

As for quality? Well I DID see a gucci suitcase that was the quality I was used to as a kid. It was NO better, and perhaps even a bit worse, but it was better than most of the stuff today, which is JUNK! The coach purses I linked to had some that were leather and SEEMED like they could be good quality BUT, again, old style!

That the market tries to sell everyone JUNK shouldn't be an ecuse to do what they do.

  • Check out Prada handbags some time. They are fairly ugly little things and cost in the neighborhood of $1,500 a pop. I just want to slap people in the face when they rattle about wanting one of those things. You can get something much more stylish for under 50 bucks - as far as quality? There's only so many types of leather and only so many ways you can sew it. I've seen quality for 20 bucks that is every bit as good as Prada - and the bags were at least a little stylish. You couldn't pay me to tote that $1,700 grey purse from Prada. It's about the ugliest thing I've seen in a long time. I can't imagine anyone so sick in the head to have people think they have money that they'd lug something that ugly around with them. Seriously. WTF is wrong with people's heads. Sometimes it embarrasses me to have to admit to being the same gender as some of the damned status pigs I see running around.

    • LOL. Nearly spilled my coffee with that last sentence.

(oh oh, I hope my wife doesn't see this thread).

    • I once searched around for shoes. Most shoes made today are FAR too fancy for me. I found one pair that, at a distance, looked ok. Up close, they were about $200. My shoes generally cost a bit less than $100 at the time(dress, and I may wear a pair for a DECADE). Anyway, those shoes were like CADAVER shoes! I wonder if they would last even 6 months! You think THAT is a lot? These shoes are a bit fancier, but $400+!?!?!?!?

UNREAL! I hadn't even heard of bally's earlier. And florsheim, where I USED to go, had some shoes like mine, but custom with embelishments for MORE!

  • I'm waiting for hemp to be legalized for growing again. Hemp makes some really strong durable (and inexpensive) cloth. I've bought hemp shoes and clothes and loved them - but they were all foreign made. I would love to have some US made hemp clothes.
  • i wear labels but they are all copies, pirates whatever

feels good and the price is right
