If you had a time machine ...

This question has no relevance to anything, but is interesting

If you had a time machine and you could travel back to any place and point in time, where would you go and why?

I would probably travel to Albuquerque, New Mexico in December 1977 and bail the 22 year old Bill Gates out of jail for running a stop sign. Then I'd be his best friend.

I'd go back to March 21st 2011 to the hedgerow opposite where my car was parked. There, I'd hide behind that hedgerow until the b*stard who smashed my windscreen and let my tyres down came into sight . . . and catch him red-handed, so to speak. What happens next is not for the faint hearted so I'll leave it to your imagination.

My wife once caught me staring out the window. She said "What are you doing?"

I never refuse a chance to try to make my wife laugh, so I said (with a straight face) "I'm travelling through time, into the future"

She said "How far into the future?"

I said "About twenty four hours"

She said (I think really anticipating what I was going to say) "How long do you think that will take?"

Me "If I don't lose my concentration...about 23 and a half more hours"

She said "Good plan. I'll leave you to it" and walked away.

It's those stupid exchanges that make my day.

At first, I thought I'd like to round up all of the spammers and scamming creeps that ripoff other peoples stuff and other people period and send them back to a time when volcano sacrifices took place to appease the "gods".

But then I thought, knowing my luck, those doing the sacrificing would probably see them suddenly materialize and worship them as "gods".

I would go back to 1994, and take out all of the best .com domain names. After that, my financial future would be secured, especially if I could register business.com, news.com, and casino.com

I wouldn't go anywhere. I'd devise enticing reasons why politicians should get into it -- something like amazing pictures of yourself...blah, blah, blah. Then I would send them tooling back about 100 million years to the height of the carnivorous dinosaur era and let them see how their fair with creatures with their own mindset, but about 3 times the size.

Don't forget to buy some put options as well for those stocks that go down. Clean up both ways.

I think it's obvious that by observing the experiment you change it, so jumping back in time and inserting yourself in a different spot would change reality. Schrodinger, electrons and photons, the Butterfly Effect.

So your ideas of playing the stock market wouldn't work, I think.

And as for registering facebook or google...the guys would simply come up with different names. Google is a play on Carl Sagan's young relative's imaginary word for a number with a lot of zeros after it.

So we'd probably all be searching on Googol.com in your reality, Marv.

Hmmm, maybe that is why Hitler has had so many attempted killings! Jewish people from the distant future tried to change it, and save their great, great family members, etc.

As well as the other odd 3 million.

But maybe Hitler had also figured out time travel and made sure all attempts were, unsuccessful?

Or someone from the future maybe even himself, (faked his death) made sure he survived.

As you can see from the link, there was one or more attempts a year, it's seems weird they were all unsuccessful!!!

Murdering Hitler - the failed attacks on Hitler’s life

Maybe time travel, isn't as difficult as it seems, or it doesn't require tremendous energy in a given space and there are some quantum shortcuts?

But as you were saying before, with the stockmarket, if the individual didn't exist, because he wouldn't have been born unless Hitler existed, then all actions of him or anyone he forces or motivates to go back and bump him off, may automatically fail, because he would be creating a paradox.

Which nature may not allow, an unknown cosmic rule, that means killing him off, is impossible, unless someone who would exist regardless of whether Hitler was killed or not, didn't effect their lives!!

Phew, temporal mechanics always gives me a headache!!!

Googol (spelled differently from google) is not any more "imaginary" than any other number. It is a one followed by one hundred zeros -- however in astronomy, they sometimes use googol plex which is 10 to the googol power. It's the largest named number and a bit more for us to really fathom.

Nobody at this point knows what going back would do. We may exist as mere holograms in a past reality. "Time" travel, according to some realms of physics isn't actually traveling "Time". According to Einstein time actually is all happening all at once so basically a shift is time isn't "going back" it's going to a different place in consciousness, then in some current theories, if you changed something in one place it would cause a split in realities- about like it would be going to an alternate universe So if you change a reality in one place, you create an alternate reality. If that theory is correct, then there's no way you could alter the future in more that one or two places.
