UPDATE: ON CBS TV 9:00-11:00PM (FOR AMERICAN VIEWERS)

Yeah. A couple days behind, meant to post this day of. Oh well
The honors are the nation's highest award for those who influenced American culture through the arts. The recipients were later saluted by fellow performers at the Kennedy Center Opera House in a show to be broadcast Dec. 26 on CBS.

Last week before I knew about the Kennedy Center honor, I was thinking bout Zeps last studio Album, In through the Out door.
It was my wind down choice to listen to after a hard night playing the clubs/partying my ass off.

It also occurred to me that this style was really a precursor to Robert Plants solo direction (Love Robbie Blounts Strat sound on this track)

It also gave a hint of Jimmy Pages future with Paul Rodgers

I saw them on Letterman Monday night.
    Good to see them together.
I understand they have a CD/DVD of a concert they did in 07 with Bonhams son playing drums.

      Yup.

Its called "Celebration Day". Just like the song off of Led Zep lll

Holy crap, I HATED covering that song. The guys would always try to sneak it in after "whole lotta love". My freaking voice would be worn down from the "LOOOOOVVVVVVE!" crescendo at the end of the song. Little boogers would jump right into it, even knowing it would piss me off. I guess it worked when my voice warbled like Plants does on live gigs.
      enjoy

I saw the video of them being on lLetterman. Didn't know why they were on,other than promoting the new dvd Thom mentioned.I thought it had to do with them being honoured in the UK, because the only pictures the showed of anything of importance was them with Royalty.

Now if we can just get LZ to honor Willie Dixon for all the songs they "borrowed" of his early in their careers...

Indeed. All of the second wave british invaders owed their chops to the American Bluesmen. Clapton,Page, and even your beloved Jeff Beck.,
As a matter of fact, the first wavers Richards,Jones and Townshend idolized Muddy Waters,Howlin Wolf, Son House and Willie Brown, etc.

The difference between LZ and the others is that LZ put their name on a Willie Dixon song (Whole Lotta Love), causing some legal actions, with Dixon winning an out of court settlement against Page/Plant.

I don't have a problem with covering songs, I actually like it. It becomes a problem when you take credit for those songs. None of the others Rob mentioned were sued for plagiarism and The Rolling Stones went as far as taking the old blues guys on tour with them to give them some exposure.

PS. On Jeff Beck's album Truth, there's a note about his saying he took the song "I Ain't Superstitious" from Howlin' Wolf, writing something like, "But it's OK, because I asked him." Let's not compare playing songs with stealing songs.

And everyone has moved on, except for Kurt.

          From Dixon's website.
Ever active in protecting his own copyrights, Dixon himself reached an out-of-court settlement in 1987 over the similarity of Led Zeppelin's 1969 hit "Whole Lotta Love" to his own "You Need Love." He was given his appropriate credit for the song.Bio | Willie Dixon
So Dixon got what he deserved and the world moved on. except for Kurt.

I have moved on. I'm waiting for you to catch up. I like and play LZ.

I made a short comment about LZ giving tribute. Rob brought up that LZ was the same as the other bands. Then I explained the difference. And there IS a difference

Of course LZ gave credit. It was part the their settlement or go to court and possibly pay a lot more money. BTW, I still have the album that says "Page/Plant" as the credits.

And this video is dedicated to Thom:

For those that don't know the background...Jake Holmes was the opening act for The Yardbirds, when Jimmy Page played for them. It was 1967 and Holmes played a song called "Dazed and Confused".

A couple of years later, while still with the Yardbirds, Page plays a song called "Dazed and Confused". A little after that, Page records the song with LZ.

It is obviously Jake Holmes' song. But unlike Willie Dixon, Holmes never persued it legally. He has only said over the years he would appreciate getting some credit for the song, which Page or LZ have never given.

And while LZ is a great band, part of their legacy should also include songs they have "borrowed"...

Kurt every time someone mentions LZ you bring up the Whole Lot of Love thing. Every time. You're the one who needs to move on and drop it.

Oh oh. If we start digging this kind of stuff, it could get ugly. For the sake of peace, I'll just leave Elvis alone.
