So Mark, how much more desperate can you get at this point? I get that your stocks have dipped below $20, but I've had a few clients who have actually contacted me via my Facebook.

Apparently, if you message anyone outside your immediate social circle, they're going to charge you $1. This is all in beta testing but... really...?

Guess the logical thing to do would be to friend 'em up first, then enjoy your free messaging

Well, in that case, I doubt they'd last for long. Soon, it'd be annoying to go on FB at all. There will be more promotions than actual content.

So, people who send messages to non-members of their circle (read spammers), are now going to be charged for the privilege of doing so.

Sounds like a good move to me.

Why? That sounds like a terrible idea...

FFS are people seriously that paranoid on that site? It's a "social network" no matter which way you look at it. Hell, since the majority of people here use their real names you better stop messaging people here as well and hide your profile.

I don't get why people are so paranoid when they sign up for social networking sites. I pray for the day Facebook is replaced by someone.. someone who hires competent engineers that make working code and doesn't employ the term "hack" just to spin our garbage code just to get a feature launched.

So you actually like receiving spam?

        Or are you a spammer?

I don't see anything desperate about it. The attraction for spammers is the ability to spam for free - oops, won't work now.

Didn't you know you could set "Who can send you a message" to "Only Friends"? I never received ANY SPAM.

Now the two options I have is Basic Filtering (RecommendedMostly friends and people you may know) and Strict Filtering (Mostly just friends -- you may miss messages from other people you know). Something tells me I'm gonna start receiving SPAM from here on.

          Sumit.

I don't know if this is actually a good thing or not. Before you could easily block messages from people you don't know. Good luck blocking it now that Facebook is getting paid for it.

Facebook is basically bypassing the canned spam act - because they own the messaging service. I want to receive messages only from those I opt in to. I hope that the laws catch up w/ facebook.

AOL, IIRC, thought about doing that like 13 years ago, and there was an uproar. As I recall, THEY only wanted to charge like 30 CENTS! Then again, WOW!!!!!
