Here's something interesting. (Maybe. Might be it's been happening a lot and I just didn't know about it.)

I got an email today in my spam. The sender was...me! It says it came from my main email address! But I didn't send it!!!

The subject line is:

'Spend 30-40 Minutes Per Day With The Possible Income Of $300-$2,000+ Per Day.'

What a crappy subject line! I'd never send that! Here's the email. (The asterisks *** replace my personal email address.)

Fellow MArketer's

First, I would like to make something very clear. We are NOT a
get-rich-quick
company.
If you are visiting our Web site looking for this type of opportunity, I am
sorry to inform you that the programs we offer are not get-rich-quick schemes.

We are a legitimate company, offering legitimate work-at-home job opportunities
that have proven success and that we stand behind 100% with our satisfaction
guarantee.
I completely understand all the hyped programs that end up scamming their
members.

I understand the ratio of scams to legitimate programs is 30:1 and we would
expect skepticism because of this.
I would like the opportunity to show you who we are, and that we follow a code
of business ethics.

I want all of our members to be part of something special through the ups and
downs, the good and the bad.
It is all about being part of a company and team doing legitimate business.

However, I must add we like to focus on the Ups and the Goods of doing
this
job.
If you read through this opportunity and feel this is just another
get-rich-quick scheme, we will completely understand.

I hope you will give me a few minutes, so I can try to make you feel more
confident in our company and the program I'm offering to you.

We have been offering work-from-home data-entry jobs which include:

* Traditional Data-Entry Jobs
* Word Processing
* General Transcription
* Business Coding
* Legal Transcription
* Document Data Recording
* Input Data Capturing
* Data Research

Every day more companies are downsizing, moving overseas and outsourcing many
of their positions.
Because of this, a brand new opportunity has come about: A work-at-home job
called Global Data Entry.

There are many large companies from all over the world that turn to companies
like us to provide them with workers, and to fill many openings in this brand
new
field.
This is considered a more non-traditional data-entry job, unlike anything you
have ever seen.

We will also provide you with traditional data-entry jobs and assignments, if
you are interested in that field of work.
if you are interested in that field of work. We have designed a program that
allows our team members to take advantage of this fast-growing market.

You may have come across just a few sites that are offering this type of data
entry program, as most of the data-entry sites you will see online are just
costly ad typing scams that give companies like ours a bad name.
In five years you will see companies like ours popping up like Starbucks at
every corner.

We are one of the pioneers of this program, and now is the time to become a
member of our team, before it is too late.
This is not going to be a fad. This is the look of the new generation of
work-from-home jobs.

Our
program has been designed to run on autopilot; all you need to do is just
spend 30-40 minutes per day.
It is possible to make $300 - $2000+ per day working from the comfort of your
own home.

This is a Real Job, a Real Opportunity. We will also Guarantee our program to
our team members, and offer complete support through the process.

P.S. If you're not interested about this 'new'
income opportunity, simply send an to email
** gcashed@gmail.com ** with a subject
"REMOVE ME".
(That's the end of the email.)

It's crap, of course, I hope you know that. What gets me is it appears I wasn't supposed to receive it. It says :

From: *************@yahoo.com <*************@yahoo.com>
Subject: Spend 30-40 minutes per day with the possible income of $300 - $2000+ per day

(I deleted my personal email address above and replaced it with *****)

So I guess some creep is sending people emails and saying I'm the one who sent them!

That starturl link above goes to:

DJ

It states on that page that the proper name of their company is:

"An important note that the proper domain name for our company is My-Data-Team.com (with dashes "-" between our name)We are NOT MyDataTeam.com. This is a common mistake and we are in no relation to MyDataTeam.com."

Can I expect people to start bitching at me via email saying I am SPAMMING THEM? Maybe. Maybe not. Still, I don't like it. I see it as akin to someone writing bad checks using my checkbook.

I think I'll send an email to Yahoo and let them know what's happening. Maybe there's something they can do about it.

No use emailing this jerry mcgovern character. The person who has that email address might not know someone else is using it, and at first it looks lik this email is supposed to go to mcgovernjerry77, but then at the end thye make it lok like it came from mcgovernjerry77...

And the sales page says some guy named Timothy Darwin is current;y the Dirsctor Of Training and program design at my-date-team.com...

Could be one of their affiliates is running loose, too.

Anyone else had this happen and if so, what was the result? Anything bad happen?

    The person is not really using your e-mail address to send mail to you. If you have access to the e-mail header information, you will find that the mail orginated from elsewhere but used your e-mail address as the orginator. The reason for this is that it would be easier to evade your spam-mail filters.

    This can be easily done by bulk-mailing software. I am sure that other people on their spam list will see their own e-mail address as the originator as well. Therefore I am very sure that you will not get spam complaints of any kind.

    Thanks Derek. At least that's some good news. I do not spam!

    Well, if they tried it to evade the spam filters, it didn't work very well. It ended up in my spam and not my inbox...

    Star,
    I think Derek is partially correct, and i think your fear is legit.
    I recently had comcrap disable my email saying they had gotten complains that my IP had spammed.
    I'm sure you will find that lots of us have had fake emails sent to us with our own name in the sender field,but the properties will tell a different story.
    In my case it showed it being sent by a comcast mail server, but not mine.
    More often than not this happened on my hosted accounts and not my main ISP account, but it does happen there too.
    Good luck with this.
    By the way, I'm very hard line when it comes to Spammers. I would like to see anyone that does it locked up for a very long time. It's the same as identity theft in my eyes.
