Well warriors the time has come for me to replace my work computer, and I got to wandering what most of you are using. So do you do most of your work on a desktop or laptop?

Desktop. I've got big hands and find the keyboard on most laptops too small. I realize there are laptop keyboards and mice and all the rest but what's the point?

I also have a laptop for when I'm traveling but the bulk of my work is on my desktop with a big ole monitor.

Desktop also. I decided on a 'All-In-One' touchscreen and absolutely love it. My internet is via wifi, so I have the freedom too roam with this, with little inconvenience.

I got both. in my hand.!
For most my Office work i use desktop and as "travlinguy" stated, the ease of typing matters here, and while in travelling laptop..[Practically, both are powerful]
Well this is the only reason for me, so...now it depends upon you..

When we replace the last living computer in the house, the next purchase will be a laptop. However, it will have to be a decent one with a large screen and more abilities like a PC. I'll start the drooling around sites soon so when it's time, we will know about brands and pricing to start saving towards getting one.

Ive been looking at a dell limited edition with a 17 inch screen 8 gigs of memory, 1tb hdd and blue ray player/writer... It would be much easier for my to take in a quite room to do my work since I dont have an office. But I do like my 23 inch monitor and keyboard because I also have very large hands. I havent done a lot of typing on a lap top so Im not to sure about doing product creation on one.

I am working with my laptop. I work with an average of 8 hours in a day. This helps me save some $$$ with my electric bill. I just ensure that I get my laptop enough air to exhaust the heat off. I use a fan on one side so I won't overheat my laptop. It's not the fan designed for laptops - it's literally an electric fan.

Circumstances predicate that I sometimes more or less have to use a laptop for 2-3 months at a time. I do so anxiously and not altogether comfortably, and have once had to buy a new one in an emergency. I strongly prefer a desktop.

Really? Didn't know this at all - you can't play them on a desktop?

has any one used the Chromebook as a secondary work station? I heard you can remote through to your desktop, was wondering if any one has any real time experience using a Chromebook for work.

I really don't know whether i prefer laptop because all my life i have worked more from my PC than a desktop.

It's a matter of choice anyway and probably you circumstances but laptop is more flexible to me.

Desktop for me.. my theory is.. if u are doing alot of work online and everything.. its better to be on a desktop than using a smaller laptop if u are in the same room most of the time, that is

Here is the best way to answer the question.

Do you need a lot of mobility? If so, get a laptop. Unless you are gaming, modern laptops for desktop computing are good enough for word processing, excel, programming etc.

Then with the laptop you can build a desktop environment. When my macbook was my primary computer, I would have it attached to a 24 inch monitor and a wireless keyboard and mouse.

When out working, I just simply unhooked the monitor and wireless keyboard receiver and take it with me, come home plug in back the monitor and wireless keyboard and mouse.

I loved my desktop environment when I was using a laptop as my primary work computer (2008-2010). I had the laptop stored, closed, on my keyboard tray, with a portable fan unit underneath, like this one, it was $8 on Amazon:

I changed settings in the control panel under power and sleep and set it to only display to an external monitor and to not go to sleep unless I told it to from the start menu.

2 USB 2.0 ports on the left side of the laptop were used by my keyboard and mouse, which sat atop the desk right above where the keyboard tray slides out.

1 USB 2.0 port on the back side of the laptop got a 7-port USB hub like this:

...which plugged into anything else I needed. Flash drives, webcam, speakers, headset, printer, MP3 player, cell phones, whatever.

I am still today using the same ASUS VH242H 23.6 inch display I bought in 2009 for that setup, as well as the Logitech speakers, headset, and webcam, and the Kensington brand Keyboard For Life and Mouse In A Box. I have an actual custom built desktop (built myself, i7-950, HD6870, 12GB RAM, 90GB SSD and 1TB SATA HD) nowadays, and the laptop is sitting in my backpack under my desk ready to go at all times. I backup my files twice a month from the desktop to both burned DVD's and an external portable hard drive (320GB), which in turn updates the laptop when I do use it. That way if I need to go on the road I'm never behind, and anything I save while on the laptop I save a second time to that external drive. When I get home, I plug in the external drive, update my desktop computer, and mark the files to be backed up to discs the next time a backup is due. Everything is synced and I do it manually, don't trust automatic software to do that for me.

I am comfortable with working on desktop having 20 inch monitor. It is better flexible to work on some apps like web designing, photo or video editing, play 3d games etc.
