Man in California tries to find loophole around HOV laws by stating that because "he had corporate incorporation papers in his car at the time and...the state vehicle code views corporations as persons--therefore he and his corporation constituted a two-person carpool."

    • "High Occupancy Vehicle" - and yeah, it seems like a pretty dumb thing to call it to me too...(as if "2" people constitutes "high occupancy" :confused it's how California refers to it's car-pool lanes -
  • Well, a corporations papers are like the birth certificate. Tax records are like, SURPRISE, tax records! The corporate stamp is like a signature stamp.

Since birth certificates, tax records, and stamps are NOT people, he should LOSE the case!

  • The whole statement is MORONIC! It actually makes LESS sense than my saying that I should count as 7 people because I have part of the DNA of my mother, father, and all four of THEIR parents! At least the DNA affects some person, who is living and must be transported, etc.... I guess he figures a corporate car should be able to drive ITSELF with NO people in the carpool lane because the corporation may have thousands of people employed.

A corporation is *******NOT******* a piece of paper! The jerk should be thrown in jail, after paying the fine and all expenses, for having such a stupid idea to give people grief and waste people's time! And the LITERAL meaning of CORP-ORATION is to change into a person! CORP means BODY, or person, and ATION implies "to change into".

That said.... If he wants to drive the CORPORATION, the building, and all employees, down the road, he can THEN drive in the carpool lane!

ALSO, he should LOSE the corporation! He is trying to pierce it ANYWAY, so let him LOSE it!

  • There have been similar cases like this in CA.

One lady tried to get off because she was pregnant, and that constituted 2 people...

And my favorite - A guy in San Jose, who was legally blind, and he was driving with a 'seeing eye dog' - which he said was a passenger who helped him drive, and gave him the right to drive (???) in the car-pool lane!

    • Too funny, creative, but I bet he loses. The ones that really make me laugh are the guys who put blow up dolls or lifelike mannequins dressed up in the passenger seat and still get caught.
