Hi guys

What is your most favourite fast food restaurant?

KFC?
McDonald's?
Pizza Hut?
SubWay?
Starbucks?
Coffee beans?

Any other restaurant?

Do they provide healthy food?

    THOSE are restaurants?

Please tell me you are joking - those are snack bars.

You might not like what I say - but I believe it.

I very rarely go to "fast food" restaurants. They are mostly heart attacks waiting to happen with too much sodium, trans fat, gluten, poison preservatives, etc., (about once a year I will go to Burger King for a Whopper Junior with Cheese and fries)

I like to go out to Thai or Japanese restaurants. My favorite American restaurant (seafood) is a place called Hs. Lordships at the Berkeley Marina in California - it is right on the ocean between two bridges - all the free champagne you can drink for brunch. hic

HEY, I'll second that! I ALSO like:

      pf changs
      ruth's chris steak house
      outback
      culvers

As for those given as choices originally, and other Qsv's(?) I believe they are called.

      KFC?
      Pizza Hut?
      SubWay?
      Taco Bell

BTW DISCLAIMER time. I own YUM stock, and 3 of those last 4 are YUM companies. YUM! I WOULD add ANOTHER, "long john silvers", but I haven't been there in a while, and another "A&W", but they have REALLY gone down hill. Still nice though.

BTW I ALSO like some small italian and german restaurants. A lot of french ones here do it I think just to act like big shots. Small servings of bad food at high prices. And most chinese restaurants I DON'T like. PF Changs is a bit different. Then again, PFCHANGS is owned by ruths chris!

    1) Kanki - local Japanese Steak House (the one in North Market square near the dead lobster er red lobster, is the best)

    2) Hooter's - ok, so I'm a sexist pig, and yes I do order take out from there because I actually do like the food.

    3) NeoChina, another local chain - great lunches (and dinners, but lunches are pretty cheap, dinners not so much so)

3a) For lunch I also like Jersey Mike's. I like it a lot better than SubWay or the others.

    4) Chick Fillet - the kids love the place and I feel its a bit more healthy than that Scottish place (McDonalds). Chicken is better too IMHO as are the salads.

    5) McDonald's - cheap, fast, and the kids like the play area and I like the WiFi.

    6) Ruth Chris - because beef really is what's for dinner. I know, you would think I'd say the Angus Barn since its such a local celebrity place, but the food is on par with Ruth Chris', but the decor sucks. I really don't want to pay those prices to sit on a wooded picnic bench. Of course it might be the only part of the place I can afford :-)
And I'm not a wine person, and those who are rave about the Angus Barn's wine list.

ok, wasted enough time - back to work.

I would my favorite fast food restaurant of all time is the Wong Kei in London. There is nothing much to say about the food but the rudness of the waiters is legendary!

      Paris Talk: Wong Kei London

"Some people tell me how rude waiters in Paris are I tell them that's nothing they should try Wong Kei's in London's Wardour Street. It's become a London institution not for its food but rather for the abusive staff to such an extent that people go there just to experience the rudeness of the waiters. It's one of the must-do things to tick off the list on your trip to the capital; visit the British Museum, have your photo taken in Trafalgar Square and get insulted by the watiers at Wong Kei's."

The above is surely an ultimate accolade for this restaurant!

Customers get shouted, and cursed at and sometime even thrown out. If you are lucky, you may even see a customer threatened with a chopper! It was really funny seeing the reaction of unsuspecting American and European tourists when they get insulted badly. All in all, a great evening's entertainment!

It is a great tourist institution that does London and the UK proud!

why the hell would I want to go to a restaurant to get insullted?
I go to a restaurant to be pampered, served good food and good wine. If my server is pleasant, she or he will get a very good tip. If the service is lousy, then I tip the bare minimum. If my server insulted me, I would report the insult to the manager and then never come back.

I should have put it a bit differently. I didn't go to the Wong Kei to get insulted. I and many others went there to see Other People Insulted!,

As long as you know your place and that it is a great honor to dine there, there it is fine. As one of their waiters succintly put it

"We are a canteen, we are not a restaurant. If you don't like us F#@k Off!

"I go to a restaurant to be pampered, served good food and good wine. If my server is pleasant, she or he will get a very good tip. "

They won't care, they don't expect a tip anyway

"If the service is lousy, then I tip the bare minimum. If my server insulted me, I would report the insult to the manager and then never come back."

If you do this at the Wong Kei. The best that will happen is that you will be told to "go home and make love", as I witnessed an elderly American couple when they threatened to complained the the UK tourist board. At worse, a chef may come out and threaten you with a big chopper!

Afterall, they have not become possibly the most famous Chinese restaurant in the world and a big tourist atraction in its own right for nothing!

      [/QUOTE]

Concerning Ruth Chris, it gave me one of my worse dining experiences recently. I don't what the prices are like in the U.S. but I paid US$100 for a dinner in Hong Kong recently for this.

      1. Soup
      2. Fillet Steak
      3. Baked Potato
      4. One Coca Cola
      5. One coffee

I did not have any alcoholic drinks.

I have not paid $100 for an individual meal for a long time. The food was only so-so considering the price. For that price, I could certainly eat at Michelin starred establishments.

Most annoying, when I spoke to a Chinese waiter in chinese, he answered back in broken english, and I had to speak english all evening. For God''s sake this is Hong Kong and we are discriminated against in our own native language! Not all that, there are virtually no female waiters. It seems that this place has a rascist as well as as sexist policy. I really felt like making a complaint to the equal opportunities commission about that place afterwards.

At least with the Wong Kei, we all knew it was a bit of fun, but I certainly did not expect this sort of treatment in a very expensive establishment.

By the way, beware of any restaurants that do not publish its menu on its shopfront. You may have a big shock when you see the actual prices on the menu!

Hmm the best fast food restaurant for me is probably Yoshinoya. I ran away when I was 17 and stayed with my sister in Japan the whole time. I was so young and ended up getting a crappy job so all i could afford was subway station food. Yoshinoya is like the Mcdonalds equivalent of japan but instead of getting a hamburger you buy Rice and Gyudon in beef broth. Best times of my life!

If they are the BEST ones, I like:

    Taco Bell
    KFC
    SubWay
    Pizza Hut
    Papajohns
    McDonald's

Probably in tat order. Usually though it is more like:

    Taco Bell
    Pizza Hut
    Papajohns
    KFC
    SubWay
    burger king
    McDonald's

BTW aren't those top 3 actually "YUM" restaurants?

BTW I DO like Ruth Chris, which is cheaper here than in hong kong I guess, and outback. EITHER puts the fast food places to shame.

My favorite used to be El Pollo Loco...but they don't have any in New York State.

If you can find one, it's about as healthy as you can get for fast food. Chrabroiled chicken for the win.

Right now, my favorite fast food place is my house....a Wegmans broiled chicken, some burrito tortillas, and shredded cheese make for a nice chicken meal that takes only a minute to a minute and a half to cook via the microwave. Yummy!

When I need to get food on the go, a favorite place of mine is Panera Bread assuming there's one nearby. Also, the extra coffee carmel fraps at Starbucks are so delicious...every now and then I'll treat myself to one.

For the majority of Fast Food restaurants though, I prefer to avoid them. Their menus items are loaded with so many fats, sugars, artificial ingredients, and preservatives. It can really get scary when you start looking at the nutritional information, and makes me think twice about eating it. If I am limited on options and need to stop for fast food; I just try to order a salad. But even then, the dressings that some of the chains offer have a lot of calories/carbs. Wendy's just changed their salad menus last year to include all natural dressings, so that would probably be my top choice.
