After six months of sleeping in 80 different homes -- staying with people I'd never met -- I can definitively say that Couchsurfing has enriched my life more than anything else. In fact, I believe this site is changing our entire world for the better, one couch at a time.

I had heard about Couchsurfing before. It's interesting to get a perspective, and some tips from a active couch-surfer.

Ever remember Axel foley in beverly hills cop, and the beautiful home he stayed in? I bought a book once LONG before that that said how to LEGALLY stay in such a place! Every now and then I wish I had the audacity to try it.

THAT was a SIMILAR concept to this. The target market is a person or group that has some home or property that is vacant for a while. I ONCE did something SIMILAR for some neighbors, and could have lived there if I wanted. The idea THERE is WHO will feed the fish, the dogs, the cats, make sure nothing gets stolen, etc.... The simplest way is to get a house sitter! Someone like Axel foley.

Joe, I have a 25 year old artist friend Molly who had a studio next to mine. Last summer she told me she was going to South America to do some woofing and/or couch surfing. She left in November and is in Columbia now, going instead from hostel to hostel and making a lot of friends along the way. Molly left by herself, is backpacking and has already booked up doing murals on several future destinations in return for room and board. She's an amazing lady. She's posting her experiences on Facebook. If you want I can refer you as friends so you can follow her the next 10 months.

Sounds like a totally doable way to travel; however, I sure wouldn't feel very safe doing it. There's loads of good people out there, but you just never know...
