Use to walk around the house singing this when I was a kid...lol Kims thread just brought back the memory. Thought I'd share and you might get that old time feelin feeling too.

Nothin like watching some hong kong phooey with a nice bowl of lucky charms.

My brothers and I would jump up on commercials and start karate chopping everywhere. HYAH!! "Im gonna turn you into chop suey!!"

Rats, I thought I had them covered with the "etc."

Truth is, I didn't miss them, they just weren't among my favorites. They were on the next level down for me. I should have had Beaky Buzzard listed though.

Etc might cover the Jetsons - I really liked that one, but etc never covers the Road Runner. When I was old enough to understand ACME - they got even funnier than they were when I was little.

Of course by the time the ACME humor sunk in we had a new one that was more of a movie but an adult cartoon that created some waves -- Fritz the Cat.

There's another one that nobody mentioned yet but I just loved - Marvin the Martian...I think that was his name Msomething Martian anyway.

When I was a kid (not to long ago), they still sent the good old classics from the 50's and the 60's like Tom & Jerry, Donald Duck, Bugs Bunny, the wolf that used to chase the bird all the time in Grand Canyon (don't remember the name of that cartoon), etc. And of course the 80's & 90's cartoons like Cow & Chicken, Ed, Edd n Eddy, Rocco, etc. But now, they only send crappy computer animated cartoons that's more like soap operas than child cartoons. They're not fun at all, they're only filled with drama.

For example when I and my step broder were 8-10 years old and watched Cartoon Network, we laughed our asses off. But in these days when my 8 year old sister is watching Cartoon Network, she doesn't laugh at all because the cartoons aren't funny, they are dramatic. She actually laugh more when she watch the news and the sports with my dad...

    Tom & Jerry
    Popeye
    G.I. Joe
    Thundercats
    Ducktails
    Looney Tunes
    Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles
    X-Men
    Scooby Doo

Cartoons nowadays aren't what they used to be. I think the stuff that's out now isn't really for kids.

Wow - I forgot all about Tasmanian Devil. I loved that one.

Terra - of course Disney is a favorite, probably so obvious a favorite that people just forgot to mention it.

The whole Looney Toons bunch were always a lot of fun, too.

Taskemann - I agree with that all the way. I watched cartoons right up til the time they stopped being funny..........there are still a few out there, but not many. I've watched Doug, Rugrats, Renn and Stimpy and am amazed at the adult humor hidden in them. Unfortunately, I don't see a lot of re-runs of the old time cartoons to see if I was missing hidden jokes as a kid. Bet so, though.

The Roadrunner was just too predictable for me. I liked it a lot at first, but the appeal faded. It was "Marvin" Martian, you remembered correctly. Was he in any cartoons of his own? I only remember him in Bugs Bunny cartoons, and maybe a Daffy Duck one.

Yeah, I'd agree with them all except the Pink Panther. Pink would be on my second tier. Maybe I just preferred cartoons with dialog.

Well, many of the cartoons of your generation made it to mine it seems.. Here's some I remember watching when I was little -

The Jetsons, Flintstones, Popeye, Looney Toons, Tom and Jerry (I didn't particularly like it though), The Roadrunner Show, Donald Duck, Mickey Mouse, Pluto et al., Duck Tales (Uncle Scrooge), Tale Spin (The bear who was a pilot), Chip & Dale, Speedy Gonzalez, Top Cat, Sylvestre and Tweety, Thundercats, SWAT Cats, Dastardly and Muttley, Hong Kong Phoey, Pinky and The Brain, Richie Rich, Scooby Doo, The Adams Family (I loved this one), Tintin, Ed, Edd and Eddy, Courage the Cowardly Dog, Johnny Bravo, The Powerpuff Girls, Dexter's Laboratory, Rugrats, Mike, Lu & Og, Grim & Evil, Atom Ant, Hey Arnold, Spongebob, Rugrats, CatDog, and a few more.

I've watched all the above shows atleast once. Some I used to follow.

Ever since the Japanese shows invaded the scene, cartoons aren't fun anymore. You could not just start the TV and start watching cartoons. You have to follow the series for weeks or months. And the other cartoons they make these days are for toddlers, you know the ones that teach you to count and stuff. Kids don't need to learn to count! They need to learn the multiple ways you could kill a bird!

I believe that my generation had the last breed of good cartoons. They don't even show old classics anymore.

Oh, and Beany and Cecil cavorting on No Bikini Atoll.
Jay Ward, the Producer of Rocky & Bullwinkle, almost became part of another 'Rocket Event'...
Moosylvania is a fictional island between the U.S. and Canada, in Veronica Lake, a fictional body of water in Rocky and Bullwinkle.[1] Its governor is Bullwinkle J. Moose. The U.S. claims that it is part of Canada, and Canada claims that is part of the U.S. because neither country wants to own it. Bullwinkle vacations in Moosylvania because "after two weeks here, anyplace else feels like Heaven."
Fearless Leader once attempted to destroy Moosylvania and almost succeeded, but failed when Bullwinkle, who was going to go down with his sinking country, asked Rocky for a stick of gum and then Rocky got the idea to raise up Moosylvania with the bubble gum balloons. The plan worked and Moosylvania was saved.
In the fall of 1962, Jay Ward, producer of the Rocky and Bullwinkle show, decided to campaign for statehood for Moosylvania. Ward sent Skip Craig to Minnesota to buy an island in the Lake of the Woods. Craig wasn't able to find one for sale on the U.S. side of the lake, but managed to lease one for three years.[2]:195 Ward and publicist Howard Brandy conducted a west-to-east cross-country tour in a decorated van,[3] gathering signatures on a petition for statehood for Moosylvania. While in Washington, D.C., they sought an audience with President John F. Kennedy.[2]:199 However, they arrived at the White House during the Cuban Missile Crisis and Ward was escorted off the grounds.[4]

The thing about old cartoons is that they were really made for adults. Sure, kids loved all the chasing and slapstick. But the jokes. We really didn't get them as children. Watching Bullwinkle now, some of that stuff is just outrageous.

In short, we were too young to really appreciate this stuff until we got older.

Aside from that, I watched a lot of the more obscure cartoons growing up in addition to the classics. Stuff that was maybe on for a season or two and then vanished, like 8th Man. I think there were all of 20 episodes made and finding an original copy, without the remastered sound effects, is close to impossible.

I think next to listening to music, watching cartoons was the thing I did the most up until around 1968. Then I stopped.

Watch some really old Mickey Mouse or Superman cartoons when you can. That's some really ancient stuff.

Ah yeah, those were the good old days and they just don't make 'em like that anymore.

And now, I'll leave you with this piece of soon to be lost and forgotten history.

This is a grownup sort of cartoon, but it won the creator an award and launched his career!

He also lived in Melbourne, AU, up St Kilda rd, for anyone who lives in my neck of the woods!

There are plenty of funny things in this, eventhough it is pretty serious, the new drug he was put on, 16 minutes in, is pretty harious, (what was written on the jar) and unfortunately not far from reality!!!
