Another Paul Potts moment....appearances can be so deceptive.

This thing has gone viral, over 680,000 views since Saturday evening. I read about it in the newspaper and checked it out. Awesome!

  • Phnx,
I haven't a clue who Paul Potts is, but I have to say that woman's voice is amazing and the clip brought tears to my eyes.
    Thank you.
  • I saw it live, absolutely brilliant performance

I read the lady was born with learning difficulties, was bullied at school, lived most of her life at home caring for her mother, now lives with just her cat for company in the same house she was born in, has never been kissed or had a boyfriend and is unemployed.

From obscurity to world-class in a single talent show appearance.

    • I know, it's even more fairytale than Potts!

I missed the whole Potts things at the time, and it was about a year later when I stumbled on it. This one I'll be following as I can't wait to see how she blossoms. She's gotta win it! As her backstory becomes more widely known, she'll go mega.

I love this underdog stuff! Those biatches who were rolling their eyes, ooh I wish the camera had panned back to them when she started singing. Hah!

I hope the papers stop calling her a "Hairy Angel" though, that's just mean.
  • Ooh Kim, you'll like Potts (he won it in 2007)

    Here's his audition:

  • Over 100,000 more views since you posted this thread 5 hours ago.
  • Oh come on Paul, I didn't watch it that many times.

Phnx, now I know who you mean.I've seen the video before, I just didn't know the name, thx!
  • Well someone's watching the thing... another 100k since my last post (830k views now).
  • Heh it's over a million now Paul. In 48hrs!! Potts has about 1,700,000 in 2 years, so I think she's gonna beat him.

Are YouTube views unique I wonder? Like most, I've played the thing multiply times (I can't help it! ) so I wonder if each view gets counted. Be amazing if they are uniques.

It's even made it to Perez Hiltons blog, who is apparently some celebrity gossip columnist for the hip young things.

What's freaking me out is so many people are saying how great it is when "old people" or "grannies" show talent. She's only 47 - a year younger than me! That used to be middle-aged....when did we become "old people"??

edit: I just took a look at some of the other clips for the show, and I've realised what it reminds me of. Anyone remember The Gong Show with Chuck Barris? Used to love that when I was a kid.

Not surprised everyone went potty when they saw real talent after the usual parade of freaks and misfits.

    • Nearly 1.5 million so far, tomorrow he'll be in 2nd place.

(Actually, saying that, there's another Paul Potts video that's got nearly 43 Million views, the 1.7 million was for the video you posted)

    • Don't worry. These were the comments by 12 year olds. When you're 12 everything over 20 is "old people" and "grannies".
  • 2.8 million views now.

A star is most definitely born.
  • Susan Boyle's got 5,688,948 views as of today.

Awesome voice. Gave me chills just like Paul Potts.
  • Just over 10.1 million views (even more surprising with embedding disabled).

Here's an interview she did with BBC Scotland:

  • Nearly 21 million views in less than 6 days.

Now it turns out that she's already had one other song already released on CD in 1999:

  • Oops, I might be wrong then But I still think it's not her.
