Seeing that in 1912, the other side of Princess Bridge, was parkland, where the Arts Centre is now, is fascinating! And the steam train in the distance!

All up interesting, especially if you live in Victoria, AU.

I heard about this in the Paper and decided to track it down online. Apparently the English wanted to show how Australia was going, by taking some pictures!

Yep. And for the last 100 years since these photos were taken we have been scratching our heads as to why we sent convicts there and didn't go ourselves and leave the convicts here.

Australia is the best place to live. It's a great photo and amazing to think how things have changed. I haven't driven for 8 years and I have only been into the city itself a couple of times since then. It amazes me how much it has changed in just that amount of time.

Yep, nothing beats going out of Flinders St station, (other side of Princess Bridge photo) going into a coffee shop and watching the Yarra River! Arrrhhhhh!!! :p

This is the coffee shop which is part of Fed, Square; yeah, l know that it looks like a pack of angry kangaroos, attacked it, but l like it!!!

The Kirra, art centre down the stairs is great as well, but a little scary, some glass art there fetches $5000!

Yep, apparently 20% of Australians are descended from convicts! Easier to dump us here than build a large fence!

Although a life imprisonment in Queensland, would be more of a blessing than a curse!

I was watching an Aussie film from 1970 called The Nickel Queen on You Tube recently. It was shot in and around Perth in 1970, and some of the changes that have gone on here since then are almost as dramatic as the changes in those photos of Melbourne.

Why do garden gnomes smell so bad?
So that blind people can hate them as well.

As I said, I have not been to the city for ages as I live near the Dandenongs. I also don't drive. But I will one day go in for a visit again. The thing I don't like is that now the city "precinct" if that's the right word, is so massive that for me it is too far to walk it all.
I remember the days when it was a square and didn't have the Docklands or Southbank.
