I love to play devils advocate , push some buttons, and "stir the pot" so anything controversial is like an amusement park to me.

Interesting, I find it pretty easy to slice-n-dice followers of Abrahamic mythology.

Perhaps you can recommend a forum where I can sharpen my Veg-o-Matic skills.

Let's rock. I love to hammer religious people. I'm not really actually a true athiest - but since I subscribe to quantum thought instead of religion people insist on calling me one.

I LOVE to hammer around on politics, too.

Three quarters of the stuff I really like to get down and dirty with isn't even allowed in here.

fundie athiests? WTF is that? LMAO. I can see your point kinda by the description you give of their stance without knowing what they are, though. I agree. The bible, and religion in general is so full of paradoxes, it's really beneath someone to use one that is so cliche and worn that it invites only humdrum boredom into the argument. A good debate is like playing chess and the game gets dull when you have to continue to play it with people whose skill and knowledge levels are far below your own.

I will say, though, that you would be surprised how much knowledge about the bible many athiest actually do have. Some athiests are completely unaware of the subject and just picked a side, though, just as some very religious people know nothing really about it other than what some dude pounded into their head from a pulpit. Neither of those are any fun to debate anything on any subject with.

Tim Phelan had checkmate against me in three posts in a recent debate. I thought it was pretty neat. (my neck is in a noose, and every moderator's foot is on the chair waiting for me to step out of line, I don't recommend anyone else try it)

I did walk away with a better understanding of the subject, and he has bragging rights.

Hmmm. I'm not sure how true that is, although adequate. I don't think existentialists actually hate you. I think it's just hard for them to connect with ya. Of course, a true solipsist would just take an aspirin to get rid of you.

            Ken,
            Lucky for you I'm a neo-Platonist.
Had to look that one up. Interesting semantic end-run around the concept of 'being.' The notion of existing outside of existence suggests a bit of philosophical tom-foolery, but it makes as much sense as either of the other propositions.

            John,
do you have 20 college degrees or whut?
Whut. As in, none. Just a rather broad range of interests.

I never know til I see it , but its fun to hammer on controversial topics sometimes. There are worse ways to deal with stress than a heavy debate within the safe confines of the off topic forum.

However it can hurt you to do it in other subforums with "marketers". The intention in here isnt competition so its cool, people just want to debate, they dont want to put you out of business.

Yep. It's such a pointless argument. It all logically comes down to trying to explain existence. Either it has always existed, which makes no sense, or somehow existence occurred out of non-existence, which also makes no sense.

Neither argument can be proved or disproved, so accepting either is an arbitrary choice. An act of faith, if you will.

So it makes no sense that the universe was always there and it makes not sense that it began.

            Yeah, I can see that.
I said "existence." I was very careful in that choice of words.

The universe we know could have been the result of something that existed before it. Which makes the issue existence, not the portion of it we can be aware of and measure.

Pointless or not, faith itself can be comforting, and it can give you parameters to operate by... a life with no parameters is just too many choices...a person can go crazy wondering what directions to go.

I have had myself banned from the warrior forum before just to lock out the distraction and not give myself the option. Having a faith to live by helps you to have some lines to color within.

My grandmother always said this one thing that was so wise to me... "Hope"... even if you never accomplish anything, or if you have alot of failures...if you are always dreaming of something new after each failure, you always have hope, and hoping itself can make life more passionate. Always have hope, always have faith.

Even if you only "believe it", that belief can give your life some meaning; if that's all it's worth.

    Ps. Of course that's debatable

I should have known that one
    That's a tough call.
I saw both the heaven and hell, and the Mob rules tour with RJD, and Dios vocal prowess was phenominal. Never saw Ozzy with Sabbath live, although I did see him on the speak of the devil tour with Night Rangers' Brad Gillis on guitar, where Ozzy did all Sabbath songs.
IMO I'd say it is a tie

And if your gov just enacted the NDAA and is starting to talk about RFID chip emplantments - and has you labeled as a terrorist because you stock up on food supplies, and is arming drones that they are going to fly over you - you wouldn't hope and pray your population has guns?

      Yeah okay. Mooooooooooooooo.
