He has been dubbed 'The Polish Sully'

Published on Feb 9, 2013
Faced with a flight emergency, a Polish pilot pulled off a remarkable feat of airmanship that saved hundreds of lives and made its way into aviation history. Actual video shot inside the plane's cabin show passengers in the moments before Capt. Tad Wrona made his incredible landing.

Wow what an amazing story, I actually found that very emotional as I was watching the pilot saying that he shook hands with his co-pilot saying he was happy to be landing with him next to him. Anyway, incredible story and an awesome landing it looked really smooth, how did he do that!

An amazing story and what an wonderful job by the pilot. He really does deserve all the praise heaped on him. It even looked like a smooth landing. Brilliant.

Sooooo amazing! And this shows me one powerful thing: When the shit hits the fan it's not about the tools and the systems, it's about the people and the human spirit. There was no number mentioned as to how much the damage to the airplane cost, it was all about the people

Fantastic. I admire the pilots in cases like this. How they can keep their heads together is remarkable. I loved the quote "it was one of the smoothest landings I've had". Remarkable stuff. Also fantastic engineering from Boeing. How a plane can land on its belly at over 200km/h as if it was supposed to happen amazes me.

It's nice to hear for a change a story, where people were safe rather than tragic al death of all passengers. Huge respect!!!!

At least some of the success of this landing has to be attributed to the ground crews, who had sufficient time to get the runway foamed before the plane tried to land. If there hadn't been fire-suppressant foam on the runway, this could have had a far different ending.

That's taking away nothing from the pilot, he did a heroic, skillful job. You can see on the approach that he sideslipped the plane to bleed off even more airspeed at the last second. Fantastic job.

I have to say that a perfect landing is *******RARE*******! Out of maybe 500-600 landings, I have maybe seen 2 or 3. Since you USUALLY have wheels, many don't even NOTICE, and it isn't a big deal. HERE, it could have meant MORE damage and/or a full on DISASTER. THIS one looked BEAUTIFUL! IMAGINE if it WEREN'T!

That pilot probably took his time. But he had to go fast enough that he had control and could recover, and slow enough that he wouldn't overshoot.
