I have been an AOL member since the service first started, and happened to come across some old billing while clearing out files. It says I have been a member since 1979. I think that is slightly wrong. Maybe it makes me the 1st AOL member?

Sounds like it. 1979 was 4 years before the company was founded, and 12 years before it was known as AOL (assuming Google isn't lying to me ).

Do you have any pictures of the bill? Blurring out all the personal information of course. There's got to be a phone number on the bill. Maybe give them a call

Maybe Google is wrong, like Wikipedia can be.

Thank you for saying what it seems most people don't believe is possible!

1979 ALSO predates the PC, the first computer AOL was first on! THAT predates MS DOS! The first O/S AOL was on! THAT predates Windows, the first ENVIRONMENT AOL was on! THAT predates windows 3.0 which I believe is the first VERSION of the environment AOL was on!

    Steve,
I never used it myself, but I had many people tell me that it was first a DOS version.
Google (which as this thread says, can be wrong) has many links to places where a DOS version is mentioned.

I thought it was windows only. Oh well, if it was msdos, it STILL needed the PC!

But there are still sites where you can download ALL the versions of the AOL software.
If it makes you feel better, download it,and burn it to CD and Voila, you are back in the 90s!

Wow, that's pretty damn hilarious. I know the internet has not been available to the general public since I was one year old. Did you have some secret government access? Jk... AOL was the first service I used when I started on the internet back in the 90's. Boy have things changed since then.

p.s. I have a few of the old cd's lying in storage. they make good coasters and and mini frisbee golf discs.
