Buying Stuff that You Don't Use

While I don't do this a lot, today I am listing on Amazon and Ebay some items I bought new and they are still unopened in the box. Either they were for a project that I just haven't gotten to, or I didn't need them as I thought I did.

I feel like a bit of an idiot for these dumb purchases. Do other people make dumb purchases too?

At least I'll recoup some of the money by selling them. Wish I had thought to do it at Xmas time -- as a couple of the items are potential gift items. Oh well... live and learn, right?

I wish you the best in getting your money back If they are electronics i recommend you to sell them as soon as possible as there's nothing developing as fast as electronics.

    • Yes, you are right about that. Actually the one item I was pleasantly surprised to see that it was selling as close to the purchase price of 3 or so years ago as it is. I will be sellng soon, motivated not so much by maximizing the money back as getting it into my Paypal account quickly.
  • Been there, done that. In the west we're trained from a very young age to buy, buy, buy. It takes a conscious effort to stop.

  • Well -- some success. I have received $220 into my Paypal account and therefore initiated a $200 transfer to my bank account. I feel just a bit less financially stressed and I still have a couple items that are very likely to sell within the week. It beats just staring at an empty bank account.

    • Good for you. One of the things I recommend in a report I wrote on financial freedom is selling stuff that you don't use. If it's just taking up space, why not have the money even if you're selling it at a loss.
  • I have recently done just the opposite.
I bought something and used it.Now there is none really available for sale, unless you are willing to go this route:
Dublin Dr Pepper w Imperial Cane Sugar Case 24 Cans | eBay

  • I got a top of the line bluetooth headset for my iPhone a year or so ago. I thought I'd use it all the time... Haven't used it once since setting it up.
  • A lot of people have these problems. They make such useless purchases. It is indeed a smart idea to sell them as soon as possible, than waiting.
  • Lol I just bought netflix, skype unlimited phone calls, and something else online and I don't even use. But I'm going to cancel this month for sure

  • I read a lot of articles about online shopping and yes it is scary how we try to buy things online and then we realize that we don't need any or half of the stuff that we purchased.
