Absolutely, anything can always be worse. The thing is we only know what we know. Folks in the 3rd World countries don't know anything better than what they have. So their perspective of what could be worse is only from where they are now.

Thanks for this info. This refreshes my perspective.

WHO CARES, when you are in a snow ball going leisurely to a large hill that leads to a cliff edge with poisoned spikes below it, and not LETHAL poison, but painful wish you were dying pain and disability type poison.

Unemployment in the US is always artificially low because people roll off
for various reasons. ALSO, "employment" doesn't mean much as a guy that
was a high priced engineer making $400K/year may end up getting a job at
mcdonalds for less than $50K/year, and THAT is employment. IMAGINE if he
    has a home, and family!

The CPI is tinkered around a lot. I have been listening to the farm
report some days, and things were DELAYED! I believe they said this
bill was to be passed last year. Anyway, it was delayed, supposedly
because of WIC concerns. NOW, they feel the sequester may KILL it!

Anyway, that ONE BILL will cause some foods to go up and some poor
people to have less money, if it fails to pass! WIC(essentially a
welfare program for Women with Infants and Children) is a USDA program,
and the subsidies are USDA as well. BTW That is US Department of Agriculture.

A lot of industries get various grants and subsidies, and things may be
bought by the government. A good example is milk. The US gives them
subsidies to provide milk, and excess may be purchased and turned into
cheese or dry milk, since it can be stored.

How do you think THIS will affect our CPI and misery indexes?

Heres a blog I found on the washington post:

A gallon of milk could cost $8 in 2013. Here’s why.

The US is being hit like five ways!

    1. Fewer places accept the dollar.
    2. The dollar is losing value.
    3. The US is more dependent on foreign goods.
    4. Various agencies/companies have lowered prices, and they are starting
    to give.
    5. Some things are reciprocal, like gas. Items increase in cost, so gas
goes up which increases their cost MORE.

    MALI...

Our REAL misery index, CPI, and unemployment are HIGHER! Once things show
their true colors, and they may SOON, before they improve, OH MAN!!!!

Farming and fishing provide food, and gold is a good source of money to
    get other things!

    Mauritania...

AGAIN, our MI, CPI, and unemployment are higher. AGAIN, we have
PROBLEMS! AGAIN, the world needs commodities.

IRAN... our MI and unemployment are higher. CPI is close, but ours may be higher!
Their conditions seem to be what ours may become!

    Maldives...
Our CPI and unemployment are higher. The misery is ABOUT the same.

OK, when we finally succumb, THEIR situation is likely to get worse.

    Bosnia and herzegovina...

Our CPI is FAR worse than theirs! So HEY, if they unpegged off the euro,
as they soon must for imports, they would be our cousin!

    Yemen...

Unemployment and CPI are lower. Again, they may get worse when we do.

    Swaziland...

Their CPI is lower. again though, if they have to unpeg from the rand, YIKES!

    Afganistan...

CPI and unemployment are lower. Sounds like us, but WE have a weakening
    manufacturing industry!

    Marshall Islands...

a US POSSESSION! They may get hit BAD! Again, they have a lower CPI.

    Senegal...

    They have a lower CPI.

    Kenya...

    Lower CPI

    Lesotho...

    Lower CPI

    Sudan...

    Lower unemployment!

That's enough, I don't want to find MORE 3rd world governments that are
better than we are in some respect.
