I am in a weird situation right now and I want to see what some of you would do if you found yourself in a similar situation.

I am currently caught up and ahead on all my work.

I know I should also be looking for more and I am doing all my usual steps.

I had the best month ever in February so that gave me a real boost financially and mentally.

However, right now I feel "bored." I don't even know if that is the right word.
I have done some spring cleaning. I have watched TV. I have read several books. I have done my backups.

I don't know if I am bored or need a holiday or just need something fun to do to break the monotony or... well... I don't know.

I hope this ramble is making sense. I am hoping that some of you may help me decide how to get out of this "funk" which is probably the only way to describe it.

I await your replies.

Whenever I get bored, I find myself starting another business. Not all of them go somewhere, but the good ideas don't go away either. They are filed and/or slowly developed for future use.

What ideas have been pecking at you?

I don't want to start another business. My main work is writing proofreading and editing and I do a bit of ebay stuff for a couple of clients.
I am trying to teach myself more about copywriting to enhance my skills.
Even though my health is lousy I want to do something that doesn't need my computer and can be enjoyable. I thought of a movie but I don't even think that is the answer.
This is why I thought I would get other opinions.
I think I need to do something completely different, whether it's for a few hours or a day or two..I am not sure.

I even thought maybe a couple of days away from home but am still contemplating.

I've been known to go to the old folks home and visit a few people who don't get visitors. Man, do they love it. And it makes me feel great too. Sure does put things into perspective.

Well - when I get to where I am feeling restless, which it sounds more like you're experiencing that actual boredom, I smoke a fattie and look for gemstones. Go get yourself out to one of the black opal districts that you have in your country. There's only two places in the world that have black opal and you're sitting on top of one of them. Be careful though - hunting is bizarrely addictive. You'll feel better after a few days and will be able to think about what ya wanna do next.

I actualy did this yesterday, and I feel great.

Only difference being is we fish/hunt for something we call "Black Gold" which is a specific (freshwater) fish here in South Florida that pays great money. We get baked, go boating, tune-in with nature and the surroundings, catch these fish, and GET PAID!

Now, since the OP has already mentioned his deteriorating health, and his dislike for smoking, fishing, and the great outdoors...

I suggest meditation. Works wonders if done correctly. It helps you tune-in (with or without smoking, lol) and can reveal your true self, passions, desires, and helps bridge them into your reality. Best of all, when all seems lost, I often find that meditating reveals our true ambitions, and connects us with our inner-child. Sounds to me like connecting with your inner-child is a practice you have not employed in awhile.

Sadly, I have the opposite problem... I refuse to grow up, and time now feels 'pressuring' to do all the things on my 'bucket list' (i.e. skydiving, visit Ireland, Rome, Australia, Hawaii, Write a 'Self-Help' Best Seller, become a philanthropist, reach financial independence... and much, much more!)

Boredom is merely a lack of imagination. Tap into your inner-child and explore it... you'll never be bored again. Frustrated perhaps, but never bored.

      All the Best,

Well Sal I don't smoke and I gave up looking for gems when I was an early teen. My folks always took us camping. We ended up in all sorts of places that were nowhere near civilisation. Maybe I am restless..... that seems to be a better description... time to keep pondering. But I do appreciate all the ideas folks.

Gave up in your teens? Jeez.......I don't even wanna know............

Seriously though - nature immersion of any sort will let your mind roam free and ideas will come to you much more naturally than if you are sitting at a desk thinking about them. If gem hunting isn't your style, maybe hiking or fishing. When ya get back all refreshed with a lot'a ideas that came out of nowhere, shower up, and go into town and boogie for a few hours (without whining. Why do men always whine about dancing? It's better for ya that weight lifting.).

If you're anywhere near my age that will put you back in a chair for a few days of good high level production.

Wonderful suggestion, and very true. Doing something for someone else with no expectation of a return favor is marvelous mood lifter. The good feeling you get will spill over into other areas of your life as well.

@Sal, my age is almost 50...but unfortunately my health probably puts me much older. Hiking is impossible. I hate fishing...hate even eating it. My back is out at even the thought of anything physical. I do agree that fresh air and the countryside is a good idea though. When I used to drive I would get away to a health resort for a few days. It is harder when you don't drive though...but maybe I can try to find something closer.

@Kurt, my landlady has 2 dogs and occasionally I take one for a walk. 2 is too much at once. But thanks for that idea.

@hardraysnight...I have an exercise bike and that is all I can handle. Being blind in 1 eye makes it impossible for me to ride a normal bike as I find I can't maintain balance...but thank you.

Thanks all for your ideas... I am getting a few small ideas from them... getting a way somewhere different might be the go...if I can find somewhere easy to get to...but keep the ideas coming. This is fantastic.

I suspect you have "ennui", not boredom - I don't know of an Australian translation.

Potential solutions include the following ...
    • Volunteer as an adult literacy coach
    • Learn to play backgammon online
    • Start writing your novel
    • Start reviewing books instead of just reading them
    • Learn a musical instrument

  • Profile picture of the author laurencewins
HI Alexa, I have heard of ennui and yes, that may be right too.
    As for your tips:
    • Volunteer as an adult literacy coach - don't have THAT much time.
    • Learn to play backgammon online - I do play a couple of online games but have recently lost a good playing partner so maybe I need a replacement for him.
    • Start writing your novel - I am writing a book to try and help a friend out of a severe legal situation.
    • Start reviewing books instead of just reading them - I am reviewing my copywriting books to try and improve my skills.
    • Learn a musical instrument -- Don't think so.
So it seems some of your ideas have merit for me and I will do them... and keep looking for other ideas.

Today I started looking for a place to go for a few days too...maybe that will snap me out of this funk.

If I got a couple of new jobs to do, that would help too...and am hoping that will happen. I will bump up my Warriors for Hire ad again.

    Thanks Alexa for your tips.

    @Art,

I do meditate sometimes and I also do find that I haven't grown up...in some ways...however, I am considering some of the places I want to go to that have things like yoga which may help me if somebody else is guiding me instead of me doing it on my own.

Maybe I should create a bucket list and do some things I want to do too...that is an interesting point as I tend to stay home isolated a lot.

I must say... I am getting a lot out of this thread...more than I ever anticipated so I thank you and everyone.

I had stopped practicing meditation for quite awhile... until just recently. However, when things get too 'out-of'-control' as life tends to deal us those crappy hands, it does wonders. I too believe it can cure us of our ills physically, mentally, and spiritually. Edgar Casey being a prime example, as I believe he reached a heightened state of awareness through meditation.

Another thing, I would suggest and give some consideration myself, is to go out and get yourself pampered, like a spa day, hot tub, steam room, massage, haircut and a shave (or just a shave), manicure, maybe buy a new outfit, whereby you get a renewed sense of self. I've yet to do this personally, but my daughters have been insisting I should (*probably for other reasons, I do tend to get a bit scruffy at times sitting at this computer, lol) ... so one of these days, I might give that one a go myself.

Yeah, Jack Nicholson and Morgan Freeman open my eyes to that one, it was a great movie.

I know the feeling well. Never expected to seek 'personal' advice from the Warrior Forum, but in doing so recently, the responses were 'awe inspiring' and helped me out of a bad place. Sometimes it's good to know people still care enough to listen to things 'outside' the scope of money.

My landlady is a beautician so I do get manicures done when needed.I have regular remedial massages because of neck and back problems... I am looking at places with a spa when I decide to go away because I know they prove quite soothing.
I don't have much hair to cut and my landlady does that for me when it needs it too.

As for buying a new outfit, clothes have never interested me. I live in tracksuits as I rarely go out anywhere that needs me to dress up.

Please don't get me wrong... I am not being negative at all. I think these ideas are great. They have helped me clarify the things I should do that will help me. I had some of the ideas but adding them all together with ideas form this thread will help me to maximise the time I have when I go away.

I will also have to report back when I return to see how much it helps.

I find that sometimes personal advice does come and it really helps as I do lead a solitary existence. A comment here and there can truly make all the difference. I know the forum is not all about making money. If it was, I wouldn't be here.

@waterrotter...I haven't for one reason. I can't sleep flat in a bed due to neck pain. I spent 12 months sleeping in a recliner before buying my current bed which is an electric bed a bit like a hospital bed. If laying flat causes pain, I suspect that being inverted will be far worse. However, I do appreciate the suggestion. I wish I had a good way to fix it.. Even surgery did not work and I am on painkillers stronger than morphine...and they don't always help.

Maybe ThomM can chime in here with his experience and tips While you can gain great benefits from inverting, you do NOT need to hang upside down. Just a gradual inversion in the beginning, then your body will let you know how much further you can go, it's amazing how quickly the body reacts and adjusts itself.

When I first began, I couldn't really lay flat either. I started with a very gentle rocking motion and in no time, I was doing full inversion.

When I first began, I also came off the table sideways, as I couldn't just get off naturally like I can now.

For me, the minor discomfort for major problems was completely overcome and I wouldn't be without my table. I knew withing a week the table was the answer for me.

It would be nice if you could try it (with doctors approval, of course).

      Best of luck to you.

Sounds intriguing. What sort of table is it? I thought inversion involved some sort of metallic cage/frame that you were strapped to and it slowly tipped you upside down. So I guess my knowledge is very limited. I certainly would like to know more.

Check Jetstar or Virgin - lots of cheap flights at the moment:
      $50 each way to Tassie.
$150 each way to Fiji or NZ.
      $250 each way to Singapore.

First off, these are not affiliate links!

I purchase the Teeter Hang Ups many, many years ago. The table is as good today as the day I purchased it.

Teeter is known for their tables as they do rigorous testing and the tables are certified and ergonomically designed. I also bought the gravity boots, but that isn't necessary.

The Army, many sport teams and athletes, too many to list use the Teeter Hang Ups. They do have an excellent reputation. I don't trust the others on the market as there are way too many knock-offs. It's not worth the risk of breaking your neck to save a few bucks. This was an investment in my future, also. I'm not going to have the "hunch-back" in my nineties:p

They do have a "Teeter Outlet" so you can get a great table at a reduced price. I must say though, this table has paid for itself a million times over. I don't go to a chiropractor anymore, the table is my 24/7 chiropractor now and has been for many years.

With that said, there is enough reading on this site to keep you reading for a while
