Suggestions needed

Hi everyone!


If you have some time, please take a look at my site themeunivers.com and maybe you can give me some suggestions to sell some themes.

Some info -

  • As you can see site is custom with nice and clean design
  • I have for now 2 WP themes and 1 free tumblr theme. All this is designed and coded by me.
  • I have ordered 1 month ($250) SEO service from freelancer.com (user - gamit) and he will try to rank these keywords - best premium wordpress themes, premium wp themes, wordpress premium business theme. Maybe you could recommend some other keywords? Or maybe some other SEO services?
  • Soon I will create another tumblr theme which will be free, I just have to think a bit how to promote it better. A week ago I created one tumblr blog where I post trendy pictures and I have gain 350 new followers, so maybe if I hit 1k followers, I could promote some tumblr themes there. The reason I wanna create free tumblr themes is that I think if I could gain some popularity in tumblr then it could lead to some sales in WP themes. What do you think?
  • I am thinking maybe I have to create an affiliate program for my theme market? What do you think about it?
  • Maybe you can give me some your own tips/strategy how to get some sales?
  • For now I mainly got traffic from tumblr (around 40 unique per day) and few from links I posted in some WP forums. Now sales yet.
  • I also am willing to invest some money, for now I have only around $500, but after some time I could get more. Should I invest it in SEO? Or PPC?

P.S I am also considering to partner up with some one who have experience to sell products and who could get some sales on my page. We could split all income. If you are interested then PM me.

    Good niche, very nice site, marketable product.
    Very tough sell. Lot's of competition.
    SEO is always good. Pretty much a given in IM.
    However, in your market it will be very hard to get a good ranking.
    Not impossible, but very difficult.

    PPC is very tricky.
    You might want to look into media buys.
    Banner ads, videos, etc.
    A very good place to start would be a WSO.

      Agreed - beautiful site, nice looking and clean themes, reasonable prices.

      If you just launched this site recently, be patient, it will do well with some simple targeted marketing.

      You want people who need Wordpress themes.

      Right now, starting out, you want people who buy a lot of Wordpress themes, like 2 a week or more.

      Interact with web designers and developers

      Promote your free Tumblr themes everywhere

      It took me 3 clicks before I saw that you had free themes for download - open with that. I'm not saying change much about the front page (it looks great), just always have that one free theme in the slider, visible with the "FREE" bubble on it - it's very noticeable and people will click it.

      You may consider building a list by making people enter their email or make a free account in order to download free themes.

      In general, consider making "accounts" on your site - you can do more. Email marketing, eventually get into monthly packs / paid memberships (need more than one theme? New monthly memberships, unlimited downloads for $97 / month) or similar. It's more scalable.

      Interact on: Twitter, Facbook, Tumblr (hint), Wordpress and Tumblr forums.

      Answer questions. Look for people who are fed up paying $150+ for a mediocre theme.

      Your stuff looks good. I would say it sells itself but the Internet doesn't work that way.

      Get this to the right people - developers and designers who need simple but good looking themes for clients very regularly - and you'll do very well.

      Focus on repeat business and referrals, you should have no trouble building a loyal customer base with your products.

    That is really good and clean, we all need a theme with SEO, have you consider make more premium theme for tumblr? We all know that tumblr is a place where people do not get judged for what they post or say. You can utilize that and make a liberated theme that similar with one of your premium WP theme.

      Thanks! Yes, I am considering to make more premium themes. Whit all post types etc. And then try to sell them for small price (for example $4.99)

        Pop 1 or 2 nice free ones out and submit them to various repositories around the net.

        Woothemes got pretty big by going to free theme route. In fact they have gotten big enough that they axed their affiliate program.

        I also wouldn`t suggest selling your themes for so cheap $4.95. It will degrade your product and open the door faster to piracy.

        Since you do your own coding, maybe look at building some plugins or your own framework for a control panel. Something that promotes ease of use.

        Another suggestion is do a product that is unique such as a classifieds model or membership site. These are just off the top of my head, but a theme for WP that runs a type of website.

        Could be dating, real estate, auction type site. Lots of work but just one theme like this could bring you a lot of traffic.

        Anyway, just my two sense. Tough market with a lot of competition so unique is the key.
