    This is a good strategy on the part of the facebook admins sometimes there were messages and referrals that I am not even interested in that shows up in my FB page. Especially the subscribe and follow ads.

    I think this is just another way for them to make more money. It's also not confined to New Zealand, as I've already seen this message and heard of others (not from NZ) who have seen it. For example, if you recognize someone's name who isn't yet your friend and you want to send them a message you will now have to pay.

    I can't recall ever getting spam messages in Facebook. This was fairly common with MySpace (when it was more popular), but not with FB.

    Meanwhile, FB itself places messages on your wall from companies that you never "liked." I assume this is another form of paid advertising, but to me it's just spam.
