Fake webinar confirmations?

I started getting emails from an internet marketer I've never heard of as if I subscribed. No big deal. I know people sell email addresses all the time even if they say they don't. I can fix that.

But then I started getting confirmations from this marketer about different webinars. I never signed up for any webinars as I've never even heard of this person before they started spamming me.

They look like legit webinars from GoToWebinar or GotoMeeting. I don't want to click anything on them (to see where they go) in case they are phishing.

Have you ever received anything like this--faked webinar confirmations?

UGH! I have been getting these as well! Seems as though (even though the rules state you can't), the marketers around here are selling lists.

I bought a WSO for something I needed a while ago, and now my inbox is full of these webinars. What's even worse, is the sales page didn't say that all of the training would be in webinar form, so I couldn't even watch.. my internet usage would be toast! So, what I paid for, I couldn't get. I did not ask for a refund, it wasn't worth it..

Anywhoooooooo... now my inbox is full of various marketers sending me confirmation emails about webinars! And, like you, the webinar hosting sites too.

No, but if I haven't signed up on a marketer's list, they get thrown in the spam bin on my email. Eventually, the messages stop or they get caught in the spam filter.

Look into the Can Spam Act if you are sure you didn't sign up. One thing I have noticed is that I've received email messages from someone where I did sign up, and the dummies email me with a different "from" address.

  • Now I think the confirmations are "real" in that they are actually from GoToWebinar.

What I believe is happening is the marketer is adding emails and names to the webinar list themselves and then sending the confirmation as if the person signed up independently.

I have to admire the spunk. It is creative. Illegal as hell--but creative.
