IT Degree or Certifications

So I currently work in IT for the Air Force and been doing it for a couple years now. I really love working in IT and thinking about becoming more knowledgeable once I leave in November (separating). My IM business deals with game design and while I do love that stuff I really want to have plenty of "technical" knowledge under my belt.

I have a Security + certification but looking to get more into the hacking aspects and computer security in general. I know there's plenty of good certifications out there but are there any good degrees that have a really good program specifically for this stuff? I know UAT has a few but they're ridiculously expensive and I actually tried going there twice but cancelled both times because of the cost.

To be honest the main reason I want to go to school is because with my GI Bill I can get a housing allowance which will be nice to have while learning what I want to learn. Thoughts?

    • This is completely unrelated to my topic, but Udemy seems pretty awesome. Especially considering my IM stuff involves teaching. I even found someone on there teaching exactly what I teach and if I read it right he made some good money. Thanks!
  • Honestly if you are interested in going to college then you want to just go with the computer science degree. Companies will look at the certifications strongly when hiring for the IT Security and Hacking field. Think Certified Ethical Hacker, GIAC/SANS, and CISSP (More audit and managementy)

    Computer Engineering degrees are also smiled on as well however It will really come down to certifications.

    If you must choose to get a degree, then think Masters Degree in Information Security - SANS Technology Institute for security is your best one. It will essentially help you get through all the GIAC certs as well.
