Ford Loss Smaller Than Estimates as Cash Use Drops (Update1) - Bloomberg.com

Yeah, I'm just waiting for the other shoe to drop. Ford will probably claim there was an accounting error and they are now on the verge of bankruptcy and need a 100 billion dollar bailout, like, yesterday...

Instead of giving the auto makers huge bailout checks, why doesn't the government just mail everyone a $25,000 check to be used for the purchase of a new American vehicle? Isn't the lack of new car sales what got the Big Three in trouble in the first place?

When will these people accept facts. The only way for the American Auto Industry to remain competitive is to consolidate Chrysler-GM-Ford into one company. Otherwise when the economy bounces back... if they are still around they won't be able to compete with Toyota.

They should keep the best of the best from each auto maker and create a new stronger company.

Does nobody ever wonder how long it took to build up these monstrous deficits?

Motor companies all over the world are in similar dificulties but with nothing like the claimed costs of the American ones. Could it be anything to do with the fact that only American companies have not learned that the number of imported compact cars was a little indication of the way the market was moving?

This is part of the problem. Another issue is that the US doesn't have the tariffs and import taxes that other countries have. It is far easier for Japan to sell cars in the US than the US to sell cars is Japan...Not to mention, Toyota is almost the 4th American auto maker with its many plants in the US, and is in quite a bit of trouble themselves.

Also, Ford actually has a pretty good line of cars right now and should be competitive with any car maker.

Crap. Between Pontiac and Jeep, I don't know why America ever even needed any other car companies. Sorry as hell to see the Firebirds go extinct.

If GM goes under... I will dearly miss the Corvette... and the Camaro.... and their Trucks. It will be a sad, sad day. Mustang is the only thing I would miss from Ford.

Pontiac is awesome. I remember this Orange Pontiac my parents had when I was kid. That car was awesome. It would flat out haul ass down the road.
