Schoep, a 19 year old dog, is taken into the lake every night by his owner, John, to help soothe his arthritis and help him fall asleep.

The dog is 19 or the human is? That is extreme old age even for the small terrier class and there have only been a handful around the world that have exceeded it

Every once in a while, you hear from someone who has a really old dog. An older woman I worked with long ago said her little dog was 22 when he died.

I had a female Dalmatian who lived to be 18 years and 2 months old - I'd had her since a puppy. She would have lived longer, but the time had come when it was kinder to let her go and our vet visited and put her to sleep on her bed.

For once a responsible dog adopter who thinks of the dogs quality of life then being selfish

You should be proud she lived to such a fantastic age.

I've seen this story before and love it. It makes me feel so warm that some people understand how important our connections with other species are and cares for them like this. What a wonderful man to do this for someone who was loving and loyal throughout their life together.

    That is entirely too cool!
I read a quote the other day but I can't recall author.
OK. I cheated and looked it up:

The greatness of a society and its moral progress can be judged by the way it treats its animals.
    ~Mahatma Gandhi.

My wife and I used to breed Bichon Frises.
One of the people who bought a puppy said her mother had one that lived to be 25 Years old.

Great man! I hope my doggy lives long. Anyways, its about time you hear about positive things with owners and animals. In my neck of the woods, I hear a lot about animal cruelity...which I don't tolerate!!

I read that, too, and there were many donations that helped fund treatment to reduce the pain.

It's funny but I remembe my thought the first time I saw that photo...I thought "now that's MY kind of man".
