I'm shocked - have you tried this?

I saw an ad last night for bingiton.com

The idea is you do five searches and the site gives you split screen results from bing and from google. You don't know which is which but you look at the results and choose which gives the best information.

I looked up five recent searches I've actually done - and I searched each of the five - and put a checkmark on the result that was most helpful to me.

I was shocked to learn 4 of 5 I chose were Bing, not google.

Didn't see that coming.

Interesting ... will certainly have a look. I do, increasingly, see people saying that Bing search results are very good. I never look at it, myself, but probably ought to. Thanks for the "reminder".

I've used Google search as my home page for years - I think that is about to change.

I was always hoping that this would happen one day. Google has not been fair to many marketers lately so let's see what they do with some competition.

When I do a search it's because I'm looking for a specific piece of info or particular product. What I noted after the test was Bing was answering my queries - rather than providing SEO/keyword optimized sites and the big "all inclusive" sites like ask.com, about.com, etc.

Really easy to compare with the split screen, too.

Bingiton does not appear to work for me, it redirects to the bing home page. Maybe either a UK or ipad thing.

Dammit. I picked Google 3 out of 5 times with 1 draw. Bing only won once. I was really hoping for the opposite outcome.

I've found Bing does pretty well for my queries. Google is not always the winner, sometimes there's just too many junk results. In any event, I use both of them.

What I've noticed is that I know how to mentally parse Google's results better. I expect certain things to come up based on what I search for, and they're either what I want or what I know how to skip past. I'm not used to Bing's results yet so I find myself going back to Google for searches because I know what to type to get what I'm looking for.

Google is at the point of market domination that they are getting a little lazy.

I used to be able to search with "site: .edu - and actually come up with education sites - now I get hodgepodge - with a lot of ads. They are sacrificing quality for advertising money. Even with Panda taking down a lot of trash, they still need to focus on delivering great results instead of the money or they will lose their dominance.

As far as "google hasn't been fair to many marketers"? So many marketers put up sites that were so full of trash it's ridiculous to consider it not fair when they got canned. Sorry about that, but it's the truth. I know a lot of people who have excellent sites and they've never been hurt by any of the changes - my own included - but these are sites with unique and quality info, not your average rehash crap depository.

There was a site a few years ago that offered this same kind of blind test. I don't remember where the site was, could have been the same one. Anyway, I did the test twice and Bing won 3-2 once and Google won 3-2 once. Back then I reasoned the search results quality was about even. I'll have to take it again to see if comes out any different.

Bing won 3 to 2 but this doesn't surprise me as I have a plugin that always brings up both Bing and Google in a side by side comparison and more times than not, I like the Bing results better. They are more pertinent to what I'm actually looking for. Oft times with Google, I have to go to page 3 or beyond to find what I'm actually looking for.

    Kay,

Here where I live we have a commercial on TV that does the same test and Bing wins 9 out of 10 or something like that. Of course that isn't real life but I mean Google better suck it up and get with the program.

I have done the test several times but being old like I am, it takes a long time for me to change. LOL

Though I also use Google as my homepage, I was amazed Bing beat "G" 3-2 in both my tests, too!

Cool share either way, never heard of it until this thread.

I chose Google for 3 of 5. Bing for 1. For one I chose "I can't decide" because the display of a youtube result gave away that it was Google.
