By some miracle or stroke of luck, I figured this out when I was a teenager, and did exactly what he says to do.

He is correct.

    Classic, thanks for sharing! :p

At the start l thought it would be the usual "do what you love and it will work out somehow crap"; try telling peole who are into craft that one. Art and crafts are dead in AU!

But thankfully he went into picking relations over doing what you love or the next best thing, (if economic conditions make it virtually impossible to go after it directly)?

Kids are probably the biggest excuse of all; have two kids and a happy wife and watch half a million disappear!

But that is over 20 years so it isn't really a good reason!

But yeah, fear of failure, fear that your so-called friends will dump you, fear that your parents will not be proud of you, fear that you will try year after year with no real results, etc....

It also seems that the people in your life, who knock you the most are the most fearful. After all if you fail for 6 straight years, and then start to make disgusting amounts online, for example, then apart from them being wrong, and most of your ex-friends being wrong, and your family being wrong, they, will have to come to the horrifying realization that the only thing holding them back is themselves!
