A moderate to serious flu pandemic would finish the global economy off and we would have a worse depression than the great depression.

I just read that in a serious pandemic NZ's economy would retract by 18%

A mild one it would retract by 2% thats upon the recession at present.

But the media doesn't help by sensationalizing and over representing these things.

Also with the internet as an economic tool a lot of the economic consequences could be averted if there was proper planning.

I'm selling all my posessions and moving to the beach so I can swim in the ocean everyday and enjoy the last days of my life before the pig flu kills us all. At least I can enjoy my last days on earth.

Now that New Zealand have their first cases. I say we should quarrantine that country so that Gareth, his sheep, and his sheep lice will not be able to cause havoc around the world!

Well, gee, Gareth. You always were. So what's changing just because it's still flu season?

As a child I was clairvoyant and had premonitions of this.

When all is lost and everybody is dropping like flies, everything goes black, I drop too, its a nightmare....

    and then I wake up.

Actually I'm not too concerned about swine flu. In a few years I guess vaccine technology will be able to counter anything like this in a flash.

Ppl were also freaking out over SARS then the bird flu. And nothing major happened and we're still here. Next time it will be the bear flu or the raccoon flu. (Still don't have a pet raccoon )

The bird flu, swine flu, sheep flu, and bird/swine flu all held so much promise at first, but it looks like this latest effort with the double swine/bird/human flu is just another failure of the Bio-Weapons lab to reduce the global population. Scientists may now be working on a more powerful recombinant strain called the "Animal Kingdom Flu". Then Gareth will finally get his life-long dream of getting f**ked by all species at the same time.

Shai Oster in Beijing and Ting-I Tsai in Taipei reports that a boy named Bao just brought the Hu Flung Flu to Chengdu, Sichuan province, China. Apparently the flu was flown by Bao from St Louis via St. Paul, Minnesota to Tokyo then on to Beijing. From there he flung flu to Chengdu. This was confirmed by China officials with their new Flim Fam Fu rapid flu-detection kits developed by The WHO. Bao appears to be recovering, but gung ho Chinese medical authorities quarantined 130 of the 150 flight passengers to see if the flu flung by Bao has hung on to anyone else.
