Rover radiation data poses manned Mars mission dilemma
  • Profile picture of the author Claude Whitacre
    Yup. Sorry true believers...

But Mars doesn't have a thick atmosphere with an ozone layer to shield out ultraviolet rays, and micro waves. Mars has no spinning metal core to create a magnetic shield to keep out cosmic rays. Mars is hit with Gamma rays and enough solar radiation to
Sterilize the surface completely...every time the planet revolves.

And it's been like that for over a billion years. At least the molten spinning metal core part....and the atmosphere part.

This is covered completely about once a week on the Science Channel.

We aren't going there anytime soon. Except in our imagination......

And robots. And robot dogs. Because robots get lonely...and a robot dog is a robot's best friend. There...See? I still belong here.

Sounds like NASA is getting scared!

      Good!!!

The Millionaire that wants a manned mission by 2020, says that NASA is BS, or making it sound worse than it is because of all the secrets on it's surface.

If we can get there in a few weeks with new propulsion systems, then as long as adequate shielding is developed on the surface, there is not a problem.

Astronauts stay at the ISS for 6 months at a time, and Russian astronauts, used to stay up for for 1 or more years?

Sound like they are trying to scare potential astronauts, into thinking twice, about the mission, next they will show graphic videos of what the cancer will do or look like.

It is good to see a rotting institution shaking in its boots!

Curiosity may have measured these particles with adequate shielding, (they need to explain adequate, if it is a piece of gold tinfoil then it's a joke)!

Ok, real Hubble images showing Mars thick atmosphere, (these are real Hubble images, not Photoshopped)!

      http://hubblesite.org/newscenter/archive/releases/1995/16/image/i/format/web/

And NASA's BS images of Mars!

Mars does have an atmostphere, but what drives it is still unknown!

It's 1% as thick as ours. Solar radiation keeps blowing it off planet. What drives it is the difference in temperature between day and night. It may vary by a couple hundred degrees each day, because the atmosphere is almost non-existent.

Again, every few days on the Science channel, this is all explained. By people with very powerful telescopes.

Of course, robots don't need air. And if you wear a hat, the solar radiation won't hurt you. So I guess it's OK to go.

But NASA...and everyone who works at NASA..and the Science Channel...and the Discovery Channel...and everyone with a telescope...and every scientist...and every science teacher...and every astronomer...are keeping the truth from us.

I'm sticking to my robot dog story. I think it's a crucial part of this massive coverup.

Come on, Claude . . . everyone knows the real cover-up is all the denial about the alien bases on the dark side of the moon.

You're probably part of the cover-up.

Shane; I've read your posts. I think all of them here.

And so have a lot of people.

Shane: I don't have beliefs. I don't have anything. I'm just going by what virtually every scientist, that has anything to do with astronomy, states after painstaking gathering of data. This is tens of thousands of people.

Every encyclopedia, every modern science book..they all say the same thing.
You aren't arguing with me. You are arguing with every single piece of evidence, every piece of gathered data.

Why is is so important to you that we think NASA is hiding something?
NASA is on the verge of being dismantled by lack of public interest.
If anyone wanted there to be life on Mars, it would be NASA.

Interest in a Mars mission would skyrocket. Funding would go through the roof. Scientists at NASA would become celebrities.

They want all this to be true even more than you do.

But they are scientists first. So they have to painstakingly sift through the information, to verify it, make sure it is proven, before they publish findings. They have to be sure. There is no room for opinion, no room for guessing.

That's why all the information on the Science Channel agrees with the information on the Discovery Channel. That's why astronomers agree with biologists, and physicists, and mathematicians. Errors show up right away. Careers are ruined. Other people count on these findings to be correct.

These aren't beliefs. There are no beliefs in science. Beliefs aren't tolerated. A conspiracy of silence from NASA is the exact opposite of their greatest dream.... the discovery of life on Mars.

And the entire planet is not in a conspiracy to keep the truth from you.

That's impossible. And I'm very sorry, because I know what this is doing to you as you read this. I know the part of your brain that is racing to find a flaw...something I said that you can grab a hold of, and say "AHA! THERE! There is the flaw in your argument".

And of course, now that I've said that, you have to deny it to show that I'm way off base.

You have to put far more work into this than I do. You have to scan internet blogs looking for scraps of dialog, blurry enlarged photos.....it takes a lot of work, I know.

Me? I just watch Planet Earth or The History Of The Solar System on The Science Channel. Or open any science book.

But that's not as exciting as creating a world of intrigue, is it?
Ok, what you are saying is that since most shows, etc you watch say mars has no atmosphere, it doesn't.

That means all the hubble weather images from 1997, and these images of Mars appearing in Books, etc in good bookshops are a pack of lies????

I don't go with the pack, if evidence says otherwise!

            Shane

It is like saying l believe the Earth is flat, because everyone else believes it, and only a handful don't.

A risky way to live, in my opinion.

Shane; It's called a "straw man", what you are doing. You are creating something that I didn't say (and neither did anyone else) to argue against.

Mars has an atmosphere..a thin, wispy atmosphere of mostly carbon dioxide, that is a little less than 1% as thick as Earths. Every science show (produced after 1990) says the same thing. Every observation shows it. The Mars rovers show it. Nobody in recent history has said there is no atmosphere. The atmosphere is so very thin, that earlier telescopes couldn't pick it up, that's all.

You think you are arguing, but you are not.
And you are doing what's perfectly normal.....you are interpreting what is being said as something completely different, so you have something to push against.

I gave it a good shot, most would agree.
And to tell you the truth, when I got up this morning, I decided to delete my last post if you hadn't responded. To continue this would just be cruel.

I wish you happiness. You sound like a good guy. I'll even let you get the last word in, I promise.

True it has an atmosphere, but from what you are saying all Hubble 1997 images are a pack of lies, (shows a thick blue atmosphere). And the one image NASA released of one of the rovers on a mountain with a sky blue sky, is fake somehow, (this is after congress threatened to pull funding if they didn't) release a lot of images they were holding back on.

Etc, etc, etc. I agree continuing this conversation, with you believing totally in popular media that it doesn't have a Earth like blue sky, and me digging up the evidence that it does is a waste of my time.

If you want to believe that the earth is flat, because you enjoy being part of the herd then fair enough, l am just giving thought provoking evidence saying that it is round!

And l certainly don't want to get into who is wiser in this case, because it would be just as useless!

Just like the other mars thread, with 8000+ views l will present the evidence as best l can and let the viewer decide!

                Have a nice day!

                Shane

PS to Mods, l doubt that l will reply to this thread anymore, so, no need to close this thread! And l thank everyone else for trying to put the brakes on!

Socialentry; I wish that were plausible. Can we Terra-form Mars? Yes. But it would cost many hundreds of times more than simply fixing our environmental problems here.

And Mars has problems that will never go away. If you create an atmosphere (Over a few thousand years, but it's possible), there is no spinning iron core...no magnetic shield to keep radiation from blowing the atmosphere away, like it did before. Mars is half the size of the Earth but only a third the gravity, because there is no thick iron core. It's not enough to hold onto a thick atmosphere.

And Mars is far enough away from the Sun that under ideal circumstances (which may have actually existed at one time) it's still on the outer edge of the orbital zone where water can stay liquid.

We shouldn't put our eggs in one basket...unless the next nearest basket is 54.8 million miles away.

Again (this isn't to you) all this is on the Science Channel every few days.
      It's fascinating stuff to me.

Well of course most believe that NASA is wonderful instead of being full of it!

I would recommend reading through my threads, and carefully studying the evidence, especially what an amateur astronomer found in the video on the "Mars blue sky thread".

If an astronomer takes shots that are on a discovery show, showing virtually no atmosphere, and an amateur astronomer shoes the opposite, clearly one of them is lying. And apparently Hubble images from 10 years ago are lies as well!!!!
