The world's energy crisis

The world is gradually marching towards a severe energy crisis, what with an ever-increasing demand of energy overstepping its supply. We have always known that the energy we use everyday is not unlimited, yet we take it for granted. Oil, gas, power, even water has limited availability. Yet, we have not taken enough precautions to deal with a possible energy crisis. When I say 'we', I am not referring to the governments but to all of us, the common people.

Oil and gas have already become too expensive, and with each passing day, they are moving towards being extinct. Some ignorant people think that energy crisis is a myth. They fail to see the big picture. There have been three major energy crises so far - the 1973 oil crisis, the 1979 energy crisis, and the 1990 oil-price hike, apart from several regional crisis.

Prices have been rapidly increasing for the last five years, thanks to the ever-increasing demand and the increasing shortage of energy resources.

How soon will it be all gone?
Are the cynics right in saying that we are making a mountain of a molehill, or is the energy crisis for real? Picture this: We have already exhausted 50 percent of the available oil. At the current rate of consumption, the rest of the oil will finish in 32 years! Imagine if the rate of consumption increases! We all know it is bound to increase. So, even the present generation will face an acute energy crisis in the later years, let alone future generations.

What are we doing about it?
Are we equipped to face the impending energy crisis? What can you and I do to tackle it? For starters, we need to understand the importance of energy in our lives and stop taking it for granted. We have to minimize the use of oil, gas, electricity, or any other fuel. We cannot afford to waste any available energy. It is also important to spread awareness about limited availability of energy resources. Simple things like joining a car pool, switching off car engines at traffic lights, and minimizing the use of gas and oil in everyday activities will help a long way in crisis-readiness.

What are the alternate energy options?
As a responsible world citizen, start looking for alternate energy solutions like solar energy and wind energy. Employing these alternate power solutions is extremely feasible and cost-effective. You will not only cut down your power bills but also contribute to a better future of the world.

What Energy Crisis? They have more oil than they can sell ... they use scarcity to keep the price high.

Watch that video... Listen to Pastor Lindsey Williams. He announced in July 2008 that oil would come down from over $130 a barrel to under $50 a barrel by the end of 2008. IT HAPPEND! A lot of people who listened to him bought oil futures and made themselves a lot of money!

The only reason for stopping using oil, gas, electricity and using alternative fuels, is to stop lining the pockets of these huge corporations.

We should have concern for the world especially when dealing different crisis such as energy crisis. I think the best thing to do is to have an alternative energy.

As a society we would flourish if we developed and implemented renewable energy sources such as solar, wind and geothermal.

Sadly I don't think this is going to happen anytime soon because of the current power structure. The men with the real power (and I'm not talking about figureheads such as Presidents and Prime Ministers) make a lot of their money out of the oil industry and they're not going to stop unless it's for their own benefit.

P.S I definitely agree with James when it comes the fatcats using scarcity as a means to inflate prices. I'm 22 now and I remember back in school at the age of 10 being told that oil would be gone by 2015. It seems like they keep pushing the date back every few years.

What I would like to see is more private homes with their own private power. I think it would be interesting to see what happens when that facet of government power is suddenly taken away from the gov't and put into the hands of people.

The sad thing is that most people wont worry about that. They would rather have the gov't take care of their problems, their power, their security then have to do it themselves, it might make them miss American Idol or something.

Personally, i want a self sustaining house. I grew up on a farm, we had a well, we had a windmill that generated power, grew our own food. We really only shopped for things we couldnt make, and there really wasn't a lot we couldnt make. Thats what I want.

I'd like to be able to produce my own power, sell some back if i feel like it and be able to watch my food from seed to table so i KNOW whats on it, in it and how its been raised and that seems to be the focus of a lot of people too. Even here in Tampa there are people pushing to be able to raise 3 chickens in their own backyard, and yet they are met with resistance by the local government.I can understand if they had roosters, i wouldnt want a rooster living next to me either. But 3 small chickens?

In some places when people use grid tied solar, which means their solar power is hooked to their home, and to the local grid so that they dont need batteries and can sell back their power, it practically takes an act of congress to get these systems hooked up because the local power companies has to sign off on all connections to the grid and they arent in any hurry to lose customers.

People should start looking around, they will find that with a little ingenuity, they dont NEED to beg the government for power or hope that the people on the corporate farms aren't stuffing their food with hormones
