NBA Free Agent/Trade/Draft off season thread

I'm pretty happy about what my team, the Warriors', front office is doing so far in the off season. That draft choice they paid for looks like a great backup to Klay Thompson. Then, although they went after D Howard, they didn't get him which is terrific news. I didn't think he would help the team really.

So, they couldn't get Howard, but from what reports say they will sign free agent Andre Iguodala, who was really my number one choice out of these free agents. And from what I understand, to make salary space for Iguodala they got rid of two huge contracts of players who didn't have good years last year, Jefferson and Biedrins. They also traded a really good player in Brandon Rush who has a lot of talent but is coming off a bad knee injury. Oh, and some draft picks. The good news is they keep everyone else, including Barnes, Thompson, Lee and Bogut, all of whom were in the news recently for being part of a trades.

There are some other interesting developments in the off season: Boston, Clippers, Houston ... I thought Ginoboli should have retired really. He had a terrible finals. Marco Belinelli will be a good fit for the Spurs though. He played good in the playoffs with Chicago.

Tim, I heard your people just got Andre Igwadalla so congrats are in order.

Your starting lineup seems pretty formidable.

We lost the Howard sweepstakes and I'm not sure how to react except to say how dare he walk away from the Lakers? LOL!

The wife is with the Laker fans that say good riddance to him.

    BTW...

I'm off for a week of sun & fun with over 20 fam members.

I'll see you in a week.

I don't follow the NBA closely, but I do read the local headlines and an occasional story about the hapless Bucks. What they've done so far looks like more of the same ineptitude from the personnel department to this casual observer.

They drafted a boom or bust project that won't be ready to contribute for at least a couple of years according to many sports pundits. In fact, the made it onto at a few lists as the team with the worst draft. Combine that with moves like last fall where they traded Tobias Harris, whom they apparently undervalued and underestimated, who went on to become a starter and is a rising star. What did they get? Another player that they just traded for two second round draft picks.

So anyway, now they agreed to terms with free agent OJ Mayo. Is he any good? I read he was a starter his first two years in the league and has been coming off the bench the last two years. Did they overpay at 24 million for three years? It looks like another reach to me, but like I said, I don't follow the NBA anymore (but I'd still like to see the home-state team do well).

    Opinions?

Just when you think you've got it all figured out, someone changes the rules.

I think Majo is a good signing for the Bucks Dennis. The Bucks had been playing two small guards and Majo is a legit two guard. He had a good year last year with Dallas with a career high in assists per game, played/started every game, third highest scoring average in his career, and shot well. That price is high but isn't that bad these days for a starter who doesn't get hurt. Depends on how he plays of course and that may depend on if they can sign Jennings or not.

Lots of drama yesterday. First Howard is off to Houston, then he's 50-50 on staying with the Lakers. Finally it was made official. Looks like a rebuilding time for the Lakers. I don't think Houston will be title contenders just yet but they'll be much improved.

Good moves by the Warriors too. Andre Iguodala almost went to the Kings first but apparently they were used as leverage.

Damn, looks like Lakers just amnestied Metta World Peace (cant find a confirmation yet, but it looks that way).

I always thought it would happen, but I will miss Ron, game 7 anyone?

Whilst his skill has diminished over the years, he can still play some solid D, just too inconsistant for the price of his contract..

I used to love his crazy moments too, oh well....

Looks like they're trying to sign Chris Kaman at the moment....

Also Antwan Jamison to the Clippers?

Things needed on a "bad note" with him, but when he actually got the playing time, he was pretty solid...

    Damn you Jim Buss/CBA/Mike D'Antoni !

The lakers are a mess Josh. Welcome to my world as a Warrior fan for the past few decades, with a few good teams here and there.
