This is funny! Bashing my business model ;)

I found this thread quite by accident and discovered there are always going to be 2 groups of people in this world:

Those that can go with the flow and adapt their business model to changing conditions while still maintaining a very high level of customer satisfaction.

Those that moan about the bygone days when graphic design cost $200 an hour and desktop publishing wasn't done from someone's home computer and Print Shop.

I gave up trying to reason with these people. What would you have done if you were in my place? Would you have responded the same way?

Back in the early 90's I had a landscape business. For a lawn that took an hour to mow I charged $25. while everyone else was charging around 60.

The second year I was in business I had 30 weekly lawns and 20 bi-weekly lawns so I was mowing 40 lawns a week. I cleared over 18,000 that summer.
The moral? Charge what you are comfortable with and smile on your way to the bank.

I had an ad in Craiglist for web design, and got quite a few good responses. But one individual wanted me to build his website for $50. I told him that I couldn't do for that, but gave him some free tips and told him I will beat any legitimate price he could find. He came back a few weeks later and closed a deal for nearly $3,000!

I agree with both of you! Referrals make up a large part of my business simply because I aim to make sure my customers are overjoyed with what they get - and that includes the price.

At the same time, there's no way I'm going to do a print piece for $20 or a website for $50, it's just ridiculous. I have a feeling the people on that particular forum are just sour because in their prime, they could slip the wool over the consumers eyes and collect $500 per hour for a logo design.

Sorry, but my business model is based on three words, "We Both Win".

If you are good, you never have to justifiy anything to anyone. That's what is kewl about having your OWN business.

I write and refuse to go to the prices people are paying now. If they don't like my prices, go get someone to write an article they are spinning off of PLR for two bucks. You get what you pay for. PLR took a lot of work from writers....for awhile. It seems to be backfiring on people now. If someone want's to pay 1 cent per word, they get a 3 cent answer from me - Go F*** Yourself.
