all very true and all very dangerous - few people are not in denial about all this and will roll their eyes.

the biggest disappointment to me about sugars etc is that for years i thought i was doing the right thing eating 'health bars' - like Clif Bars? They are loaded with super good stuff - but then they have 25 grams of sugar! (that is 6 TEASPOONS of sugar in ONE bar)!!! as much as an evil 'candy' bar.

so what if it is organic cane juice - ok better sugar (not processed & bleached) but still sugar and still causing IMFLAMMATION, etc.

and milk? blaaaaah. if it isn't bad enough (symptoms/reactions) try this one: many cows have been shown to carry Leukemia - so I don't think we should drink dat!

    Thanks for sharing.

This should not be a surprise because everyone needs to be aware that it's okay to eat the foods we want but we need to keep them in moderation. Too much sugar can, of course, get you sick as well as trans fats. If we keep them in moderation and learn how to burn more of what we eat than taking them, there's no need to worry. Dairy products have both benefits and disadvantages, and just like what has been mentioned, keep them in moderation and learn to balance them.

It's not dairy that's bad - it's the pasteurization. I eat hella cheese and love milk. Will never cut dairy. Actually eat a tad too much sugar, too - although I make sure it's real sugar and never fake - organic cane, etc.

I'm not afraid of heart disease because I keep a lot of anti-inflamatories in my body at all times, coconut oil, flax, cucurium, etc. along with blood purifiers (dandelion, etc), and milk thistle, which keeps glutathione high and the liver functioning normally.

Inflamation isn't just bad for the heart - it can lead to cancer and all sorts of other crapola. What is really upsetting is the fad health info that leads people to act wrongly - such as that cholesterol garbage. I had a friend die because he cleaned so much of it out of his body that he started losing blood through holes in the walls of his veins - that's what it's there for, to plug them. They never once mentioned that women need a lot higher amounts than men. It was all a fad - made a LOT of money. That's why I NEVER follow health fads. For awhile it was eat margarine instead of butter - and also to tank down on the fructose and leave sugar alone. For cripes sakes. It's lunacy. Just give me REAL food again - with no pesticide on it, organic and delicious. That's about all it takes. Forget this pasteurized, enriched, homogenized, severely modified..and on and on. Just give me REAL and ORGANIC. I'll handle the rest myself.

Have any of you ever noticed how loaded with sugar foods for babies and toddlers are? It is shocking. Some even have artificial flavoring in them. One would think that when it comes to babies, the best of intentions and good-faith practice would come into play, in particular with established and experienced baby food companies. Not so. For me, it is no mystery why 60% of North Americans are obese or overweight, starting out life like that.

To add to this, it seems depression also adds to heart disease.

A friend of ours is a professor at the University Of Cincinnati's College of Medicine. He has the studies to prove this, and has a book out about it called Treating the Aching Heart: A Guide to Depression, Stress, and Heart Disease. It's an eye-opener.

He also is the author of numerous medical school textbooks.

Milk is only bad for you because it's been so transformed from natural organic raw milk. The incidence of digestibility and allergy related issues started with pasturization, which kills the vital enzymes. Then on top of that cows are jammed with chemicals, antibiotics, GMO feed.

I never drink milk that isn't at least organic, and prefer my milk raw. I was one of the kids who had problems with store milk as a kid..........but we had friends who were dairy farmers and when we got the milk raw from them.........not one iota of a problem.

Sugar is also not so much of a problem if it's used as a treat and not a daily staple. How long have people been eating processed foods as their usual diet? When you consider eating something sweet once or twice a week and the alternative of eating sugar in almost everything you ingest, it becomes almost surreal that people will do that to themselves.

One of the best ways to take care of your health is to eat organic foods and stay away from the processed crap. I don't care if it's meat, veggies, fats or what. When humans try to outsmart nature, it never goes well in the long run.

I do agree. Sadly the crap food is massively cheaper than the good food. Something I always found a little odd. Especially when a vast majority of people, here anyway, have very little money to spend on expensive but healthy foods.

I'd love to have my milk direct from a cow too but like most people in a city, that's a bit difficult, on a daily basis anyway.

I do agree with almost everything you said. I just think it's mostly irrelevant unless you either live in a more rural area or you have enough disposable income to pay for purely organic foods. I don't think most people can do that. (Again, I'm talking about here, so this may not be the case where you are).

Personally I try to do as you say but it does cost me a great deal. I buy my meat from a very nice farm shop out of town but the cost is huge compared to a local supermarket and the fact is, I am able to afford it and only just. Organic food is, for me, always more expensive than any other option.

It would be nice if they could switch that around a bit so the less well off could afford to eat healthily. They have to eat and if the only option available is crap, they'll still have to eat it.

Education is, I feel, the biggest issue. Most people either don't know or don't care what they eat.

Then of course you have unscrupulous suppliers and vendors. You did hear about the horse meat scandal here didn't you? That was a disgrace.

The incidence of digestibility and allergy related issues started with pasturization, which kills the vital enzymes. Then on top of that cows are jammed with chemicals, antibiotics, GMO feed.
This interested me Sal. If the cow is already full of chemicals, antibiotics and GMO feed, what would the milk be like for consumption if it wasn't pasteurized?

I think I know, I'm just asking you as you appear to know.

Excellent points you made though, I'm just by and large against the fact that the healthy food section seems to be a very well run and profitable business over here. Is it that way in the States or is healthier food more widely available and more importantly, affordable?

The other thing is the portions and lack of portion control by parents. Mom or Dad
giving their 5 year old a 16 or 20 ounce can of Ice Tea - the kind that has a ton of corn syrup added...

Pasteurization is still required for things like the on the shelf organic juices.
A few years back some people died because they got something (salmonella maybe?)
from the unpasteurized stuff. I was in a Vitamin Cottage Natural Grocers store tonight
and read a label on an organic juice. It boasted that they used something like a cold pasteurization process.

Real food is very expensive here, too, Richard. As far as those that don't know - they need education. As far as those that don't care - let em eat crap. Good way to reduce some population rather than making decisions for them - let them cull themselves.

That's a question I never thought about - the milk question. If there are antibiotics in it, why do they need to pasteurize it. They have so much crap in the regular non-organic milk over here that they often have to put milk flavoring in it to make it taste right again. Serious.

It is really hard and expensive to eat right........but cancer and other disease is pretty spendy, too. I could live in a lot nicer circumstance if real food wasn't so spendy. I chose to eat well and live less affluently in general. I do live rural -and will always chose to live rural, so that does make it easier, although I believe, at least in the states, so many more people are starting to demand good food again that it's easier to find it in large cities now as well.

      Thanks Sal,

Definitely an education thing and to a great degree, in the case of suppliers, they need to check too. It worries me so many people simply don't care, so long as they can afford it. That's fine but it's not fine if they've kids to feed

I read in the article linked to here that in the US, if a product has under 0.5% transfat, that can be put down as 0%.

Over here they put horse in food and said it was beef or lamb etc! I still can't believe they got away with that and big supermarkets were selling it (It was limited to pre made nonsense so I don't think I ate any and to be honest, it was probably healthier than the cow and lamb we have on offer anyway)

In reality I think living a less affluent life and saving our bodies, like you do, is the answer and the more I look at bought food, the more I want to grow my own veg and go out into the country and hunt venison on the weekends.
