I just billed a spammer $4000

Today we received 4 emails from the same source. I tracked down their PayPal account
via their affiliate links, and I thought I'd send them an invoice of $1000 per email received.
They obviously won't pay, but I trust they will stop emailing us now.

How far have you gone in an attempt to stop spam,
when continuously receiving multiple emails from the same source?

This is FUNNY!!!!!!!!!!!! HAHAHAHA, I should start doing this. I have sent nasty emails demanding where they got my email from, I also have over 200 GMail filters to handle spam.

That's a new way of doing it, never thought of that! Does this typically work for you? Or is this the first time you've tried scaring them off by billing them?

I might probably do the same thing once I caught them, but can be tricky on my part of course.

Hey Marc, can you do this wire transfer for me? My late uncle Mr. Foshakito has died and left a inheritance, all I need is your email, phone, SSN, Bank info and first born.

I have no idea, but there has to be a shortage of Princes in Nigeria, maybe i'll take all my inherited Nigerian Prince money, and go be a Nigerian Prince, and when I die, I will spam one of you with my inheritance.

I wouldn't risk my PayPal account to send extortion demands, amusing as they may be.

Sign up for a Spamcop account. Reporting the mail to the hosts it was sent through is satisfying without the risk.

Sounds like the same sort of thing I've received a few times over the last few days. Clever moves. Makes me think of sending invoices to all spammers I can get a Paypal address for. Who knows, some of them may just pay it without paying attention. Can't hurt and if there's ever a problem... THEY CONTACTED ME FIRST

All you end up doing is sending invoices to people who have no idea why they're receiving them. The "from" address is not the spammer's e-mail address, it's whatever they want it to be. That's fundamentally why spam exists -- the inability to verify sender identities; anyone can claim to be anyone else.

Which is why you want to track via their affiliate links as I did. They wouldn't link their affiliate link to someone else's PayPal.

How much Will I make with it?

Looks Like another Income Stream If they Are going to pay.

P:S= This is a screenshot of my Old email Id where I used to signup at multiple squeeaze pages when I was a newbie and didn't knew anything. Later I found it best to create another email Id rather than unsubscribing 1000's of them. BTW, The new people I've signed up with are safe with my new email.

Well he found their Paypal id in their affiliate links. He didn't just use the email it came from. So it definitely went to the right person. Which is pretty awesome.

But you have a point about endangering your Paypal account. Paypal will put a hold on your account for making too much money, let alone this right?

I'm not that worried Marc. Yes I've heard the horror stories too of PayPal putting a hold on accounts when all of a sudden there's an unusual influx of money.

However for close to a decade our account has done bigger ticket items on a continues basis, etc, and Paypal's security dept is familiar with us. (In a good way of course) so I'm not concerned with Paypal and our account. If I was, I would not have done this. However, If after a decade of business they decided to shut me down for this little prank, then I really wouldn't want to sleep with them anymore anyways.

Haha I really like your creative way of replying back the spammer. There will always be spammers around and I will simply just delete their email away.

It will be interesting to see if your spam starts increasing. They could add your email address to all kinds of lists as their way of saying "good one" back to you.

Clever trick, but I wouldn't have done it.

If they pay though, let me know.

That's a unique way of dealing with things. Funny stuff.

Personally, I don't give spammers a second thought. Just delete, delete, delete. I guess the annoyance factor depends on how heavily they are hitting you though.

Cute. But after all these years, I find it's quicker to delete/hit the spam button and move on. If spammers were concerned about what they were doing this might have some effect - but they don't, so this was a waste of your time. Except as entertainment value...

Hey Mike, yes I was just Entertaining myself and hopefully a few warriors got a chuckle out of it. There's a little satisfaction in picturing this person receiving the Paypal invoice, briefly turning white and or pooping his pants, quickly removing our email address from his follow up que, and possibly rethinking his marketing strategy.
