Google now hired GOATS

Yes this is very much true that now Google hired Goats. But not for coding purpose, they just want to use less carbon approach and hence to clear their fields from the grasses they hired goats.

Now goats are having great time at their and also fertilising google field land as well . Google save gasoline and diesels which use in mowers although cost were same as hiring goats.

Certainly big G are INNOVATIVE.

You mean the goats didn't just drop out of the sky? Wow.

Hey Valerie, goats will eat anything. Are you sure you want a pet goat? You might come home from the store to find half your tv missing!

That is a pretty good idea to use goats instead of mowers to keep the grass mowed, but that's one less job for a landscape company.

And isn't it cheaper to just hire illegals to do it twice a month?

Some McDonald's restaurants make their minimum-wage employees mow the grass and pull the weeds. Cheapskates.

I guess it would be too much for Google to ask a few of their H1B visa holders from India to do it? (Oh, wait. That would be bad publicity if it got out. Goats makes them look green...)

    No wonder they're using goats!

Phew! Sure glad to know they aren't using goats to do their programming. We'd NEVER be able to figure out the algorhythms Google uses for ranking!

Don't know about you, lalit.burma, I don't need any stinking permission from this President or any other, for anything.

They just built a google building in the Columbia Gorge and I can say that they didn't have to transport those goats very far, and ordinary landscapers wouldn't have had fun with those rocky fields. There are a few goat farms out here that rent their goats to clear land and they do it quite well even when the terrain is rocky and the vegetation is stubborn and thick. Using goats to clear land isn't a new solution out west - but for a corporation to be innovative enough to use them is.

I'm sure the benefits of the goats will definitely outlast any environmental damage caused by the diesel engines used to deliver the 'lawn help'.

Google built a facility on the Columbia Gorge?! Hope they've got it tied down! The winds can really kick through the Gorge!

Where is it, in George?..Washington? (Yes, there really is a town by that name out there!)

I wonder what Google is doing about zoning ordinances concerning farm animals within city limits?

It's in The Dalles, Star. They have quite a large chunk of property there and if you've ever been there you know how rocky that area is. Lawn mowers are useless. They would have to do a complete excavation and fill to put a lawn in where that field is.

The goats wouldn't be against zoning because they aren't going to live there - just grazing. I think the goats they used were from a farm uphill from there about a mile so there wasn't much transport. They aren't going to haul them in and out of state or anything. I don't think they want to kill their "environmental specialists" LOL.

It is pretty windy there all right - that Chinook wind off the coast whips up that gorge something furious. One woman was killed there when I lived down there a year ago when her car was blown off the highway over a cliff!

Anyhow - I think that it is a wonderful idea to use the goats. It might not work everywhere, but no reason not to feed these guys in areas where lawn mowing is almost an hysterically funny idea.

No wonder they located there...the property really is nothing but scrub brush and rocks, so buying it for a pittance is more than possible, even though Google has money coming out the wazoo!

So they are bringing these modern mowers in every morning and packing them out at night? If so, the pollution from the exhaust really does defeat any 'green' gains!

I should Google the word 'silly' and see if 'Google' comes up...

maybe they picked that spot because its windy.

the next 'big thing' right now is wind turbines. possibly they are thinking of powering this facility with wind?
    {{ DiscussionBoard.errors[760860].message }}
  • Profile picture of the author HeySal
MIchael - there are 300 wind turbines on a hill across the river from Google - and I think they are putting up a few uphill on the same side now so that's a real possibility.

Star - go walk around there for an hour and tell me that you would use your mowers on that crap if you had a mowing business. Transporting the goats doesn't take that much fuel - they aren't going that far. It's probably only a 3 to 4 gallon round trip.
That field isn't as nice as it looks - it's a layer of dirt over a lot of volcanic rock (some with petrified wood in it btw, LOL). It's hell on mowers when they can move at all. Looks like they did some fill, but I wouldn't call it mower friendly. I've been there (they weren't hiring techno-idiots at the time) so trust me on that one.

EDIT - just got the whole show to load. Rail? That rail runs whether the goats are on it or not so I would think that they spend even less on gas than I had presumed.
Also - I don't see it in the film, but Google is right on the river.

I agree with you Sal, I've been through that part of the country many times and know how rough it really is, and that would be a good place to use goats, but the OP didn't specify where Google was using them.

Could you imagine what people would say if they turned goats loose on the lawn in front of corporate in Mountain View? I imagine there would be some objections from the locals.

Using goats instead of lawnmowers is a great idea, one I recommended to ppl before

You don't have to put gas into them to make them eat the grass and you don't have to pay them like if you were hiring a crew.

And not only that you can pat em and baby talk em.

I don't care how cute they are, they'll be a heck of a lot harder to ride across the country than a good ol' riding lawnmower!

And what are we going to do about the lawnmower races, train goats to race? That wouldn't be nearly as much fun.

Now Star shame on you. You can't go around using gas frivolously like in lawnmower races. We're gonna run out one day ya know.

Yeah, you're right, Valerie. It is rather wasteful, isn't it? I guess I'll just have to get more into the electric belt sander races, which use electric made by coal-burning power plants...

Better give the bad news to all those NASCAR fans, too...

Exactly! Shame on Nascar for not being eco-friendly! I should write them a scathing letter right now. They can turn it eco friendly and have goat races or peddle car races if they insist on using cars. No gas, just peddle with your feet.

Now, now, you two. We all know that all but a billion of us are going to be bumped off by the elite or ascend soon so there still should be plenty of gas for those of us that stick around to have fun with until they find a way to price Helium 3 high enough to keep the remainder of us poor and subjected - but at least our cars will still run.
