Turns Out I Had A Drug Problem Growing Up And Didn't Even Know It!

Somebody emailed this to me this morning and I thought I'd pass it on to all of the drinkers down here in the bar...

"The other day someone in a store in our town read that a meth lab had been found in an old farmhouse in the adjoining county and he asked me a rhetorical question, "Why didn't we have a drug problem when you and I were growing up?"

I replied, I had a drug problem when I was young. I was drug to church on Sunday morning. I was drug to church for weddings and funerals. I was drug to family reunions and community socials no matter the weather.

I was drug by my ears when I was disrespectful to adults. I was also drug to the woodshed when I disobeyed my parents, told a lie, brought home a bad report card, did not speak with respect, spoke ill of the teacher or the preacher, or if I didn't put forth my best effort in everything that was asked of me.

I was drug to the kitchen sink to have my mouth washed out with soap if I uttered a profanity. I was drug out to pull weeds in mom's garden and flower beds and cockleburs out of dad's fields. I was drug to the homes of family friends and neighbors to help out some poor soul who had no one to mow the yard, repair the clothesline or chop some firewood, and if my mother had ever known that I took a single dime as a tip for this kindness, she would have drug me back to the woodshed.

Those drugs are still in my veins and they effect my behavior in everything I do, say or think. They are stronger than cocaine, crack or heroin, and if today's children had this kind of drug problem, America would be a better place.

God bless the parents who drugged us."

Feel free to add this to your blogs and websites. This is one kind of 'drug' problem we need to help spread.

I was chuckling last night to myself thinking about something.

Most of those in positions of power now are those of my parent's generation. 60's, 70's..etc.

These people are worried about things like sexting, teens wearing helmets when bicycling, teen drug use and so on.

And what struck me as funny is that the very same people that are worrying about this kind of stuff are THE people that introduced that kind of stuff into this country.

The people that cant understand why texting is so big, were the same people who promoted 'free love' and were basically humping on every open gras spot in the 60's.

The same people that today are worried about teen drug usage, are the same people that put drug usage on a pedastal in the 60's. Timothy leary didnt come from MY generation.

The same people that are worried about helmets on biccycles are part of the same group that made famous Evil Knevil.

Kids today have it so easy with all this PC crap. A time out? What good does that do? I never got a time out, I got a hard slap across the back of my head! Sometimes I even went to bed without dinner! (It was okay with me. Those were the days dad was cooking!)

When I was a kid I had to walk all the way to school, and it was uphill BOTH ways!

If I cussed my dad I wouldn't just get my mouth washed out with soap, I'd have to EAT the soap! I'd fart bubbles for days!

Time out? Ha! Kids today are soft! They don't know the meaning of a time out until they get grounded for an entire month! I once spent an entire year in my bedroom!

You're right, Michael, you young whippersnapper, Timothy Leary didn't come from your generation. Hey, your loss! If it wasn't for Leary I imagine we wouldn't have some of the fine pain killers that we have today. Animal testing? What's that? We tested it on OURSELVES!

    You kids today...soft, soft, soft...

    FURTHER!

Yes, I suppose not. I don't think anyone in YOUR generation knows how to
    spell lysergic acid diethylamide.

The only thing worse than being in the generation that made drug use 'cool' is being proud of it.

And the only thing more pathetic than a generation of people who could change the world for the better doing nothing but talking on cell phones is pointing a finger at another generation as blame for why they are not doing so.

You have no clue who Leary was or what his research actually revealed - because he was silenced and jailed and had his reputation smeared with propeganda before the mainstream could learn of anything beneficial that his research revealed.

I've read enough about leary to know he's not what those too old or too burnt out to know better think he is. I'm sorry, but if you hold a person who has a regular diet of psychotropic drugs in high regard, then your standards aren't that high.

It has nothing to do with some 'super secret black ops by the government to keep all the great benefits of lsd down'. Not everything is a conspiracy.

Ahh, Michael, ye know not of which ye speak, my narrowminded friend.

Dang it, that's the trouble with today's kids, they're believing all that claptrap about how bad drugs are for you. Here's your brain, here's your brain on drugs. What a bunch of crap! Nancy Reagan is responsible for this, I just know it.

Everything in moderation, ya know. Sure some of my generation overdid it a bit and got their fifteen minutes of fame, courtesy of the mainstream media and their over-practiced sensationalism, but they were a minority, for sure. Most of us practiced 'recreational' use, which means just once in awhile. Hell, people get drunk on alcohol a lot more than my friends ever did drugs. And alcohol screws you up a lot worse, causing permanent damage and turning otherwise nice people into raging wifebeaters and I've never known any drug to do that.

I can't speak for anyone else, but I don't hold Timothy Leary on a pedestal, don't see him as a hero. I see him as a pioneer and if it weren't for pioneers who trailblazed for us, we wouldn't have a lot of things today that we take for granted.

Just because something is illegal does not mean it is bad for you. It just means the idiots in D.C. found a way to make millions by busting us for possession of it.

So relax, Michael, kick back, try one of the pills with the red x on them and just melt into the cosmos for a little bit. Become a shooting star. You'll feel better in the morning.
