That's what I said when I stepped outside this morning. The next thing that went through my mind was...

Man, it's a hot one, like seven inches from the midday sun.

Now I have this song stuck in my head and I can't get it out.

Do you have any songs that you think can knock that out of my mind? Pleeease?

If that doesn't work, this will. Although, getting this stuck in your head might drive you mad:

        Dan,

I listened to YMCA, but there's no way I'm going to listen to a peanut butter and jelly song. I've never heard it before, but I'm pretty sure I don't want to, lol!

        Thom,

Thanks! Now that's what I'm talkin' about!

                    LOL! Nope, neither of those.

Mom always had Coke and Dad always had A&W root beer, Vernor's or Mountain Dew.

I've already been to the A&W in Lake George and the one in Middlebury Vt. this year
More then likely we'll ride to both of them again soon.
I liked Vernor's, we don't seem to have i taround here so I'm not sure where I was when I drank it. Mass. maybe?
When I was a young tike there was a little country store down the road and round the corner from me (acroos from the cemetery Sal) They had those two, coke, pepsi, and orange soda. Also had one of those old time penny games on the wall.
Here's a song for you Terra. I was just listening to it and Roy's voice is so beautiful it gives me the chills and cools me off a little

The Band, Feat, Tractors, Orbison, Cash, etc. All different all the same (if that makes sense). Fresh Carp fits in there (just not at the same level) and is the type of band I'd love to play in.

I bet that feels great without all our humidity. They're saying with the heat index it feels like 105 out there.

Dry heat and dry cold are both much easier to tolerate. Of course, this weekend I will be at a little altitude digging on an outcrop of outrageously gorgeous moss agate I found. It will be sunny and warm - but not intense unbearable heat. Might get chilly over-night though. We'll camp (we - Ricky and I and maybe a member or two of my forum..........at a pond stocked with goldfish and big pink lily pad flowers.

Here's what I'll be digging up - very poor photography but at least I got a shot of it -- it's more translucent than the picture shows and the moss is a lot deeper in the stone than it looks here. Then I get to ship it to a member of my site and get it slabbed so I can make jewelry cabs - YAY.

I SO love summer!!!!!!!!!! This is what I do when it's hot out.

And the best spot in the world to camp - - if you look past the cloud reflections you might be able to see little orange specks - those are goldfish. The pond is full of them (mosquito control).

And that is why I LOVE THIS HEAT!!

          Ok Sal

How is that moss inside the stone and what is the stone made of? Perhaps this is obvious to you but I don't think I have ever seen such a thing.

And what is a Jewellery cab when it is at home?

Looks like a gorgeous setting to camp.

How is that moss inside the stone and what is the stone made of? Perhaps this is obvious to you but I don't think I have ever seen such a thing.

And what is a Jewellery cab when it is at home?

Looks like a gorgeous setting to camp.

            Dan
Dan - the stone is an agate. The "moss" is just a description of the type of inclusion in the agate - agates have all kinds of patterns - banding, moss, plumes, etc. So the "moss" is just the design another mineral makes inside the stone. "Cab" is short for cabochon. Stones in jewelry are cabochons and made from stones such as agates - then you have crystals which are faceted that are in jewelry as well. The stone in the picture has all the members of my site drooling. It's a pretty marvelous agate - I guess if you aren't familiar, then it would have to have some lapidary done on it before you'd be able to fully appreciate what I found.

Terra -- yea PINK. It's beautiful up there. When you sit on the side of the water a whole school of goldfish will swim up to you. They swim along side of Ricky when he paddles around in there. It's just a very Zen kind of place.

The rocks with water in them are called Enhydros. I have some quartz crystals that are enhydros that I dug up in Copperopolis California, but not any of the agate enhydros. They're pretty kewl looking crystals.

I don't take very good pics but here's one of my quartz enhydros:

That's why I like the NW high desert. Arid heat is so much more tolerable than humid heat. Our 90 feels like your 80.

Sand gets hot though - if you walk outside in that sand in 90 - 100 degree heat it's enough to melt your keds.

I don't know about that "dry heat" thing.
My wife and I went Vegas 2 years ago for a seminar in August.
It was 110 and felt like it.
                    Dry heat? So's an oven.

Every Spring when I was a kid my mother would take my brother and me

Sweet! Wish I could be there!

Pink lily pad flowers? Okay, now I'm jealous! :p

I wanted to ask you if you ever hounded any gems/rocks that have water in them? We took all the grand kids to the County/4-H Fair this past Sunday. Anyway, at one of the booths there was this cutest little old lady that still hounded and she had these beautiful polished rocks that had water in them. You could shake it and feel it in there. I can't remember what they were called though. Do you know?

Naturally, as she showed me all of her rocks and gems from Michigan and many other states, and talked about how you cut them and other processes, I thought of you the whole time.

Actually, after a long period of draught we've had a bunch of rain the past 7-10 days and the mountain flowers have really bloomed. I'm not sure I've ever seen the Rockies prettier than they are right now. Everything is green and colorful and bright.

As a matter of fact, we're having a pretty good thunder storm as I'm typing this...

I''m so glad to hear you are having some rain. It tears me to thing of that gorgeous countryside burning. It rained here all June and we're already in fire danger. Of course, this is desert in the first place so I guess you have to expect summer dry in the desert, doh. I just wish the city people would freaking figure out how to enjoy the country without setting it on fire. If they HAVE to get off the sidewalk, maybe they should take classes on how to do it without tanking everything they come in contact with.

No joke it's rained here in SC just about everyday since the 1st of the year.

I've lived in SC for the last 13 years & we have never had this much rain, matter of fact, usually by July the grass is scorched from lack of rain.

Yesterday afternoon we had a really bad storm, rain, hail, lightening, after the hail stopped I was looking out the front door across our pasture & there's a fence/tree line (about 1/4 mile away), lightening strikes & right above the tree line was a fireball, ha, ha, I've never seen anything like that before. It wasn't any power transformers exploding or anything like that, the other side of our property line is 100's of acres of state land (no houses).

It came from the sky, I seen it with my own eye (lol)!!!!

I used to live not far from where Kurt lives now and it's the only place in my life I've ever seen snow and lightning at the same time. Nature can be very strange when she wants to.

HeySal, that is thundersnow, a mix of a thunder storm with lightning and instead of rain, it's snow coming down. We've had that happen a few years back in PA. But I do have to say I think I've only seen this happen once, so it's obviously pretty rare, or at least here it's rare.

What isn't so rare are heavy thunderstorms with a lot of hail. PA can get some nasty ones, but usually not as bad as out west. When my son lived in Texas, the hail about demolished his car, all the windows broken, and the metal dented everywhere.

I just turned on the news and the first story was about 9 people struck by lighting in the same county I'm in.

The next story was about flashflood warning in the county. This is the same area and time of year that the Big Thompson Flood struck back in the mid 1970's.

The next story was about another woman struck by lightning hiking a few miles from here in Rocky Mountain National Park. It seems she was caught above timber line when the storm hit. It's pretty scary when you're in a thunder storm and there's no trees and you're the tallest thing around for miles.

That's no lie. Especially where there's a lot of metal minerals in the ground! More than once I was climbing in what was supposed to be great weather only to get to the top after a 4 hour climb and see electricity coming at me. 20 minutes to get back at least to timberline. What a freak out.

It wasn't a cold rain at all, but was very cooling.
