What do you do when you want to clear your mind?

Well this is me (I have even a second nickname) and as you can see, I'm not that good, it isn't sunny and the water was cold....

But believe me when I say, it was relaxing and it clears my mind each time I go on the water....

What do you do, to clear your mind and feel the energy floating back in your brain?

    Hi there,

Usually, I have a couple of stiff martinis!

    All the best,

    Sasha.

Well, that would be a "problem" for me, I don't drink at all.

But as I understand, some people like it, so I'm happy for them...

Usually a coffee and newspaper does it for me! Unless a screaming baby is close by, then going to an electronics store to smash up some computer generated cars does the trick.

Nothing more satisfying than smashing a car against a reinforced concrete pillar at 100 k"s!

        Sweet! :p

Did it, done that and I hope I will never do it again!

I drove my 1996 BMW some years ago with the speed of 160kmh against a concrete wall on the German autobahn, so from my personal experience I can see:"There are more relaxing ways to relax"

Although l have to admit, going to a tropical location and renting a BMW roadster, is one of my goals, but not smashing it!

Well, funny -- that's where I learned to actually like to light up to relax. Never wanted it before because it just put me to sleep. Never did it after I got back to the states again until college. I had a heavy curriculum and after hitting the books for 36 hours at a time with no sleep, I needed help to stop the wheels from cranking so I could sleep. I learned a lot in my time over there.

The best way for me is to workout. Nothing like pushing and pulling some weights around until you're about to pass out.

Then again sometimes I will do yoga, meditate, or some deep breathing exercises. It really just depends on the mood that I am in. They all work really will for me and keep me grounded.

Oh yeah alcohol seems to do the trick too. I just don't like to poison my body all the time though.

I am a workout junkie so it's a lot. I would not call myself a body builder nor do I look like one. I train the core muscles and do more functional movement patterns (squats, deadlifts, pull ups, push ups, etc.) I just like to add weight with them.

Currently I have been on the kick of doing mud runs. I just did the mud factor about a month go and this coming Sunday I am doing the warriordash. I cannot wait they are blast!

I just heard about the Iron Warrior Dash and that is coming in Sept where I live. The only problem is that one is 15 miles long not sure if I am ready for that. I am not a huge runner but I push myself to do it anyway. You can't win at life if you don't push through it!

In warm weather, I go relax in my lounge chair out on the deck, close my eyes, and just listen to the sounds of nature. The warm breezes blowing through the tops of the tall pines sounds like an age old majestic waterfall that has stood there since the beginning of time and I imagine standing there watching it.

The singing of the birds makes me imagine that I'm under a tall willow tree that forms a canopy overhead as I sit and watch in my mind's eye the birds playfully flit from branch to branch, playing tag and then perching on various branches to give me a personal serenade.

In the cold weather I draw a hot bubble bath and play some soothing music that relaxes me and I focus on the warmth of the water loosening every muscle and permeating on through to my bones and the effervescence of the bubbles caressing and softening my skin.

I find when I relax and just concentrate on the simple things that are going on around me, whatever was troubling my mind has no room in there, lol!

I play my piano or guitar, depending on my mood. Piano mostly, as it's only a few feet from my computer (guitar is upstairs). My favorite way to play is at night with all the lights off, the room as dark as it can be so I can barely see a thing, and just play to my heart's content.

Twenty minutes.... an hour.... I'm ready for whatever.

When I'm feeling stressed, I'll go into a dark room and meditate and do yoga to center myself. The breathing exercises help clear my mind. If the weather is good, then I'll turn off the computer and get outside for a walk. Just being in fresh air helps me to focus so I can think things through and get perspective on my situation without distractions.

I like to look at pictures of beautiful places in the world to relax. I go on instagram, stumbleupon, facebook..whatever, and look at photos of Yosemite, Greece, Hawaii etc... and then my over-imaginative mind does the rest! I am quickly swept off into day-dreaming, and within a few minutes I am relaxed! Of course, actually traveling to those places would be even more relaxing, but on a tight budget, photos and my ability to "space-out" will just have to suffice!

As a competing triathlete the best thing in the world is to dive into a pool and switch off or jump on the bike and spin those pedals on an open road or slip on the running shoes and go off road in the forest valley away from the urban sights & sounds and just fade into my inner thoughts etc.

I take the boat and go for a fishing trip. That's the only way I can relax and clear my mind 100%!

I've gotten hooked on sudoku, especially jigsaw sudoku. It takes your mind off everything because you really have to concentrate.

My Daughter just gave me a second option to clear my mind.... Candy Crush Saga.

I "Hate" her now, when I close my eyes I see the little candy blocks in my mind. It's like when I was 18 years old and played Tetris....

When you want to clear your mind describe your desired end state and then work backward There's a technique called backward planning that could come in handy for mental blockage. Sometimes, in order to untangle a string, we need to find the end and then work our way back to the beginning. Maybe you can do the same thing with your thoughts?

When I'm in need of mind cleaning I take my camera and go for a walk. Nice long walks accompanied by my camera always help. Having a camera beside me helps me to spot details I'm usually missing. I am always instantly reminded of how life simple and lovely is and all other thoughts that were occupying my mind just go away.

I go for a walk in the woods, or take time to do a little art journaling.

You beat me to it. I was actually going to post that I really never want to clear my mind.

Even meditation is a form of concentration. But I don't want to clear my mind, I have too much to do. And as age creeps up on me, my mind will be clear enough without my help.

What if they're not stars? What if they are holes poked in the top of a container so we can breath?

2nd vote for the nature walk with or without the fattie :p
either way being outside in nature clams me right down and clears my head completely.

where I live I'm about a 1/3 of a block from the canal trails and I just love watching the Mallard ducks swimming around the water's edge - ducks are gorgeous creatures in my opinion and being near them makes me happy.

I understood the "clear your mind" as clearing it of relentless barrages of thoughts you don't want to think, but that keep bullying their way in anyway.

But oh the thoughts I can think and the things I have thunk when I am able to control the thoughts I thinketh.

Terra; I actually don't have that problem. When I'm goofing off, thoughts pop in and out. But if I'm working, I'm concentrating on one thing. No idea why that is. Maybe training, maybe habit, maybe brain damage...who knows.

I'll start writing, doing some work online, or working on a presentation...and I look up, and it's four hours later.

What's even more impressive is that, at night, I lay down, close my eyes...open my mind...and when I open my eyes...it's eight hours later.

It happens every night. It's a super power.

Full disclosure; The last two sentences are a joke. And they are very ...very funny.

I go on a long distance trail run (I never run on asphalt or concrete roads/sidewalks....NEVER). I usually go 4 to 5 times a week and that always does the trick (the more elevation changes and unimproved terrain the better).
