Drones Approved For Civilian Use In The US

I wonder if by the time the general public realizes the level of control being exerted and invasive "info gathering" being done to citizens....it will be too late to do anything about it.

The national debt is getting close now to 17 trillion - and we wonder why? We can't afford to let the people tour the White House they own....but we can afford this crap?

Just because you have the ability to do something doesn't mean it's wise to do it.

      I hear ya, Kay!

Actually, with all of the what I deem underhanded practices going on in the upper echelon of our government, I immediately thought "Bull Crap" on what the reported use of those drones would be for.

You're 100% correct. 'They' put up trial balloons to see what people will except. You've likely all heard the quote, and I'll paraphrase, 'people get exactly how much tyranny they will accept'.

Until people push back in a meaningful way 'they' will continue to spend and grow their surveillance.

Vote with your dollars, it's the easiest way. De fund the players who are aiding and abetting by opening up back doors and helping eviscerate the 4th amendment.

...which begs a very interesting question....so of the several ways in which we might "push back" what exactly is the MOST meaningful way?

        ...the answer?

        A public armed with guns

It makes sense then that "they" are trying to remove that option.

        agree? disagree?

OF COURSE! We have to spend tens of thousands of dollars just to ship bo to marthas vinyard, billions to pick up a $%^&*(, and somewhere in between for some golf games. I guess a few thousand more for drones is NOTHING. But the whitehouse has seen a fantastic drop in approachability recently. About 30 years ago, a parkinglot became a garden. About 20 years ago, they shut the street down. Tours were also limited. NOW, they have gotten rid of tours.

So.... I'd like to see people with some balls to make their opinion public:

Answer this question: Will drones over US skies eventually be armed.
And if YES how many years until we see it?

And if No, what is your primary reason.

My guess is YES ...summer of 2015.

    La la la - SO...................

I told you so - I told you so. I informed you thusly. I informed you thusly. Turns out I'm not crazy. Remember what you said about me? (yeah, you know who ya are - several of you). Looks like I'm not crazy -- you're just stupid.

Crap. Why doesn't it feel good to say that? It should feel great to say that.

Will they arm them? There was already talk about that. Remember that 13 hour filibuster that Rand Paul staged and how he kept demanding a straight answer from Obama? The question was - "do you believe it's okay for you to kill citizens on US soil without a trial". Then a few weeks later they hunted that guy accused (not convicted, accused) down in LA and burned him alive. Remember that? Remember how they forced people to allow them to search their houses (for their own good) -- remember the terror they caused looking for the Boston Bomber -- forcing people from their homes at gunpoint. (yet it was a citizen that found the guy and called the cops).

When everyone was all interested in Zimmerman - they went in killed the bill to stop the NSA spying.

You can be tracked via your cell phones - even if they are turned off. You can be tracked via your computer. Your car can be tracked in real time. They can see through the walls of your home (but of course would never abuse that power, right).

Here's a fairly decent article on some of the more overt spying they are doing:
13 Ways You Can Be Tracked By the US Government | Alternet

So why aren't people up in arms in the US over this crap?

Maybe it's because of some of these mind control patents - and these are just a few of those that are "non-classified" as secret.

I just figured that killing innocent citizens and children in the Middle East with drones has worked so well that they would have to try it here at some point.

It's different. If they want to come fly over your hot tub or your yard

When the police are killing innocent people and they are right there on the scene, how can we expect a drone not to do the same thing?
Look at their track record in the Middle East.

I am more worried about the police having them than the military. I suspect the military already has flown armed drones over US soil. Having armed drones patrol US soil, even for something like border patrol, is something I am against.

I'm wondering when the time comes that private citizens will be able to have drones will they be allowed to arm them? After all, there is the 2nd amendment. Can you imagine someone like an overzealous neighborhood watch guy with an armed drone? Yikes. 8/

There was talk of using a drone to track that suspected police killer in S. CA not long ago. Then the place he was supposedly hiding went up in smoke like it had been bombed. Was that a test run or just people getting paranoid? How likely is it that we'd ever know for sure?

Of course - they now have the mosquito drone......which has the capability to "bite" and deliver poison straight into your system, too - so when we talk drones - we're not just talking big visible planes that can be shot down.

I think the reason people aren't concerned with the military use of drones is because of who the military is killing with them.
What people don't understand is drones aren't armed with single shot guns, they use rapid fire guns and small missiles. Unless they are targeting someone who is alone, they will and do kill innocent people.
The only use of drones that I would approve of would be for tracking a criminal or looking for lost hikers.
As for your second amendment comment, if I don't think the government should have armed drones I don't think we should either.
On the other hand if the government has them and deploys them in this country we have the same right to have them to defend ourselves from that government.
Remember the government is suppose to be our servants, not our masters.

It is different. I agree with Rand. It's also different if they arm them and if they don't. With all the surveillance now being done, though, when you take into consideration how extensive profiling has become and what little they need to build a very solid profile, it's just purely dangerous to let them do this. You don't ever want a repeat of what has happened in many other locations and could just as easily happen here. That is, picking up and jailing people simply because they present an opposition to draconian policies.

Incidentally - I saw that is what is happening in Greece right now. I can't confirm that either way - and it's not surprising to me. We've seen it happen over and over within just the last century. I just would like to know if it's true or not. If it is, and the UN is not making them stop it - we are all in grave danger.

Absolutely not. No. I would be okay for them used to track a known criminal to bring him to justice - and that is the ONLY purpose I would ever consider them okay. I just meant to say I think that there are differences in the intent and usages.

Unfortunately - I also think that if they are allowed at ALL, eventually they will be used to kill anyone who has a dissenting view from our admin. That's how it goes everywhere where the leaders go mad with power - it's been proven over and over again. Until our leaders no longer possess human attributes, we are not safe from them becoming luniacal enough to kill anyone they damned well just plain don't want around.

I was just agreeing with them that there are degrees of danger in usages - not that they are okay in any way shape or form or that we can trust their fair, legal, and safe usage. Maybe saying I agree wasn't totally correct. Just saying the quote was kinda accurate.......not acceptable.

I seen a drone not too long ago in my area during a 4th of July fireworks show. It was extremely quiet, so I assume it had electric motors.

It flew over us after dusk, and I was only able to see it because it had its lights on. Had the lights been turned off, no one would have never known it was there.

If it was a model airplane built by a private individual, it must have been very expensive as its flight path was very stable. It could have been a plane/glider hybrid.

I wondered if it had a forward looking infrared (FLIR) camera system.

It was definitely too big and too advanced to be a kids toy, though.

Well, the FAA only deals with larger aircraft. GRANTED the FCC works with some smaller aircraft, but nobody seems to care anyway!

    Heysal,

For a couple hundred dollars you could get a decent platform.(About a square foot capable of lifting something that is maybe equal to its weight, with a programmable computer that can control its flight autonomously ) It is opensource, software AND hardware. At the rate they plan to improve batteries, in a couple years it could be amazing!

There are some good uses for drones so I'm not for banning them - just think it's wise to pay attention when so many are being ordered. It's a useful tool that could become invasive easily and quickly.

      Really? The ONLY time?

How about using them to find forest fires here in Colorado ASAP? We'll be using them for this pretty soon.

Or to monitor and count wild life?

What about to help countries that want to use them to find poachers?

      How about inspecting bridges?

      Atmospheric research?

Aerial photography for real estate sales?

      Photography/video making in general?

      3D mapping?

Disaster relief? For example, a nuclear leak or any other type of toxic spill?

      Monitor traffic flow?

      How about helping farmers?

He said drones will be used to survey huge farms and pinpoint areas in need of fertilizer and pesticides to prevent waste. Current crop surveys and dusting can be done with planes or helicopters, but drones will make the technology more affordable and accessible.

I will wholeheartedly support and vote into office anyone who promises to legislate this purpose into law.

            Kurt -

I agree with all of those uses - and none of them requires arming a drone.

Okay - I relent to a few of those, Kurt. I still feel that no matter what we put them up there for, they will be used to violate us........everything else in technology is being used that way once the governments get their hands on them.

If flying one of those will get me Pizza delivered from back East where pizza is REALLY GOOD - I guess I'd have to say that would be on my list of allowable purposes. Wonder about the delivery charges, though.

Pay no attention to that buzzing noise outside your window. (It's probably just a really large bee.)

Reminds me of those futuristic movies and video games when drones are everywhere monitoring everything, and the human race is enslaved and...wait a minute...

    The future is coming.

Here is an incident where a Drone crashes into crowd at Great Bull Run

    http://wtvr.com/2013/08/24/watch-dro...reat-bull-run/

There is going to be a massive explosion of personal drones later this year because of newer and cheaper products. It is rapidly going mainstream. Remember the DJI phantom personal drone I mentioned earlier in the thread, it is now sold in places such photography shops.

DJI Phantom Quadcopter with GoPro MountCP.PT.000001 B&H Photo

But there are two far cheaper competitor coming along. One is the the Blade 350 QX. It is due to be released within 2 months and hobby shops have been told that they are limited to buying 4 each because of heavy demand.

BLADE 350 QX BNF with SAFE Technology (BLH7880) | Horizon Hobby - Radio Control R/C Planes, RC Airplanes, RC Helis and Helicopters, RC Cars, RC Trucks, RC Truggys, RC Boats, RC Radios, RC Engines, parts, hop-ups, and accessories

Another one is the Walkera QR X350

    QR X350_Walkera

There is a an option where the drone comes with a FPV transmitter so that the operator can do first person spying in realtime.
