    Great play! That was as good as the one where Jeter was outside the first base line and flipped the ball to the catcher for the out at home.

    First thought: "What was he doing there?"

    Second thought: "Hustling!"

    It's typical for the catcher to come down the first base line as backup on plays where he isn't required to cover the plate. It just so happened the back up was needed this time.

    I don't know about "one of the greatest plays by a catcher ever," but it showed smarts and solid hustle.

      They, the Reds, recognized Puig as an aggressive base runner.
      So, on that particular play, Mezaroco followed him down to first.
      Then, if noticed, Bruce set the trap by feinting a throw to 2nd, chasing Puig back to first where Mezaroco was waiting.
