That's one of the worst info graphs ever. It's based on positive and negative words used on twitter? For one - I'm willing to bet that the happiest people in America don't even use twitter - and two - Considering the fact that twitter is used a lot for spamming, and spammers rarely use negative words, this is most likely a better info graph for states that spam the most.

So Gary, you believe Utah and Idaho are hotbeds of spammers, huh? LOL

Obvously, Gary is unhappy and didn't read the article, especially the part about "correlating" with other studies.

What emerged was significant regional variation in happiness by this calculation, which correlates with other lifestyle measures such as gun violence, obesity and Gallup's traditional wellbeing survey. A sadness belt across the South includes states that have high levels of poverty and the shortest life expectancies.

Oh no - I'm sure the mormons and potato eaters are truly happy. And I'm happy too - didn't you notice the smile up there?? - Oh wait maybe I should be tweeting that.

However, I've been to just about every state in the union, and if you measure a person's happiness based on their behavior - which is probably a much more accurate measurement, then this graphic is just about a polar opposite of reality - minus maybe Illinois and Michigan - those people truly are unhappy.

          HHHHAAAAAAAAAAA -- ROTFLMAO

That's the funniest thing I've ever seen out of your mouth. Hahahahahahahaha.
Kinda racist.......but, still hilarious, I don't care who ya are. Hahahahahahahahahahaha

Okay = let me qualify your statement for ya -------- I lived in SW ID for many years - I've gone back twice and probably will end up in ID again before too long. I LOVE that state! But what you said is so on the mark. LMAO Gotta love rednecks, ya know. They're pretty safe people to be around during times of social unrest. And a lot of em grow potatoes, so they are double kewl. Food and protection. And there's lots of rocks, too - so make that potatoe eaters, mormons, and rockhounds - none of which is mutually exclusive. .

But they're happy out there. Deliriously so. You should go visit the area some time.......I'm sure they'd have fun with you.

I cant imagine ever being happy in New York, California or Illinois or any other state that tried to fix all its problems with Government anyway. I love Kentucky but its even still to Government happy for me. I have considered New Hampshire or some of the states who rank high on the "Freedom Index"

Freedom in the 50 States 2013 | Overall Freedom | Mercatus Center

Unfortunately as a Libertarian I notice its difficult to find a state that has a high economic freedom and social freedom.

I've lived in ID, OR, NV, WA, CO -- and I think the reason people are so happy is because the population is smaller, there's more room to breath -- I was in CA for a year and I have no clue why those people are happy. None. Zilch.

California is a beautiful state. Beyond that I dont get it either. They dont seem to see themselves as the rest of the country does for sure. They are probably the next Detroit on a larger scale.

It's based on words used in tweets - and part of it may be regional speech patterns...or maybe not.

Not surprising areas with great natural beauty and higher income stats would be happiest.

It could have just been a slow news day and the publication needed some filler material - ever notice how many articles are baffling why they are published? Either the site is avoiding real news or it has run out of slant on a subject.
