      We can be Heroes.

Some of us are capable of heroic deeds. And we really never know if it's in us, until it's needed.

Here is a Hero that risked his life. Watch starting at the 6 minute mark.

I don't know which is more amazing. That a few people are willing to risk their lives to save others...or that the rest of us aren't.

What if they're not stars? What if they are holes poked in the top of a container so we can breath?

I think there are everyday heroic deeds we don't even think about.

The single mom who has little time and even less money but has made the decision that her children are going be well fed, have clean clothes and get a good education.

The young couple who are struggling financially, but have enough personal responsibility (character?) to keep trying to do what is necessary to put food on the table and try to build a life for themselves. (Screw Batman.)

I would bet that most of us have done things that have made important contributions to other peoples lives... and our own.

Joe; Are these people heroic? Maybe. I always thought of it as doing your job...being as good parent.

I've been a good parent, and have a successful life. A hero? No. Not the way I think of it.

If being a hero is simply providing for your family, or sacrificing for your children...then most people I know are heroes. Then I am...and I don't feel that way at all. To me, parents providing great care for their kids is what they are supposed to do. Taking care of an ailing child, spouse, parent...is a responsibility. But it isn't heroic. I have an unusually successful marriage, but neither of us are heroes. We are simply being ourselves.

This is just a point of view I have, and your point of view is equally valid.

I should say that I think Character is a far more admirable trait than the capacity for heroism. An act of heroism is (in my thoughts) a short event. Character is for a lifetime.

Good character is more useful, in my opinion.

I was talking about a heroic act. Overcoming your fear of death to help another. I don't know if I have it in me.

A fair observation. As always, I enjoy the interesting input.

I have no doubt that, should the call come to you, you can and would answer it.

Everyone has the capacity for good and most don't see themselves as heroes. They just do what needs to be done at the time. I know many people have helped me over the years in numerous ways and I would like to think I have helped others too.
It's the unsung heroes that do good deeds and random acts of kindness that should be applauded.

I agree with Joe...everyone defines being a hero differently.
